I didn't know San Ardo produced that much crud or that what it produced was carried by train to Southern California.

Never really thought about it...

I'd say it passes by my home about 1/2 mile away from the tracks.

"the cause was under investigation, according to Capt. Charlie Johnson of the Santa Barbara County Fire Department. "

Maybe we will find out the cause, and maybe not.

"The oil refinery at the Mariposa Reina exit was threatened, and all railroad activity between San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara was stopped until further notice, Johnson said."

There is apparently also an oil refinery in danger.

Latest:

"The fire briefly threatened two oil refineries, but officials say they were able to keep the flames away."

I hope things won't change for the worse.

He will be missed.
Sometime before Ronald Reagan's death, this google search would have returned 3 results : the two pieces of the puzzle put together, one of them and a piece out of place (not useless, but used to confuse people).
Check which result is missing now.

Wow, I am bummed. My wife and I have gone camping about 5 times in the last several years at Gaviota State Beach. Hope it is ok.

Just a crazy thought here but could it possibly be that someone wants to take away from the honor and media coverage of our dear President Reagan? This just sounds too suspicious to me to happen on the heels of President Reagan's death.

S**T! I just sampled 3 miles of the center median of 101 there a few weeks back! I found a train flattened penny under that bridge with my metal detector in the evening...

I don't know if it's suspicious - it's been hellishly dry here. All it would take would be some idiot tossing a lit cigarette out a car window.

We've been bracing for a bad fire year for well over a month now.

Here is a good link from the CHP. It has a lot of details there. News in Santa Barbara is virtually non-existant. The only talk radio station has a infomercial on right now for ultimate HGH or some crap like that.

I had errands to run, so have been offline. KEYT-TV in Santa Barbara is now covering it live. San Marcos Pass (Rte. 154) is gridlocked due to closure of 101. 101 closed remainder of today. What a traffic nightmare it's going to be. This weekend in Santa Maria is final day of Elks' Rodeo - the biggest event of the year, thousands of extra people in town, all leaving today.

Fire is about four air miles from Rancho Del Cielo. A lot of it hasn't burned since 1955, a lot of fuel there.

It's fairly windy here today in Santa Maria, temperature is 81 right now - this fire is going to be serious trouble.

The Arguello and Shell Oil refineries were threatened, but undamaged. Three outbuildings have been damaged, including one structure that was part of an abandoned school, Purkett said.
