"Two influential fund-raisers who helped Democrat Erskine Bowles in his bid for the U.S. Senate last year have agreed to help U.S. Rep. Richard Burr, R-5th raise money for his 2004 Senate campaign."
I wonder why. Trying to get in the good graces of the next senator?

The Rats are worried about 2004 with Bush at the top of the ticket. Edwards' win was a fluke and they know it. They're desperately trying to get a lottery referendum on the ballot to increase minority turnout.

'If you look at the history of successful Republican candidates in North Carolina, they've all had to reach out and build coalitions,' Shoemaker said. 'That's one of the things we have to do.' Jesse Helms was great at that.("Jessecrats") I like Burr from what I know about the guy.

Sounds like Richard Burr is on his way up. The latest indepenent poll shows Sen. Edwards lead over Burr has fallen from 49% to 33% in February to 47% to 39% in July. Serious conservatives should send Burr contributions if they can afford to. And serious conservatives in North Carolina should help to get out the vote for Burr next November. This race looks very promising.
