from

Specter, the tax-man.
Specter does not support President Bush's agenda.
Specter is too old.
Specter set to abandon Republicans in last term.
Specter is the Senate's doctor of death.

It will be interesting to see how Specter votes on the Pryor nomination. Apparently he was none too happy with Pryor's responses to his questions on abortion and there has been speculation that he might vote against him in committee. If Specter once again becomes an unreliable vote on matters as important as judicial nominees then I think he has even more of a problem on his hands in the primary. For Pete's sake, Specter wants to take over the judiciary committee after Hatch steps down and he knows that the rank-and-file GOP care a great deal about judicial nominees.

You're totally right about the Pryor nomination. Don't forget that Specter grilled Pryor on whether he "supported the right to choose" instead of asking softball q's like the other Republican Senators.
The guy even highlights "the right to choose" in constituate letters on judicial nominations! I can't stand the though of him headed that committee when Hatch leaves...

I can't stand Specter! And he is ugly too. Sorry, that was mean. But anyway I read an article somewhere that Chuckie Schumer (I think) was pimping Specter for the the Supreme Court. That tells you all you need to know about him!

Here is is...
Senator Suggests Specter for U.S. Supreme Court
Sen. Charles Schumer, currently leading the Democrats' filibuster of two judicial nominees, sent a letter to President Bush Tuesday suggesting nominees for possible Supreme Court vacancies including Republican Sen. Arlen Specter, according to The Associated Press Schumer writes White House with suggestions for Supreme Court
Toomey campaign manager Moorie Pulley: Liberal New York Senator Chuck Schumers choice for the Supreme Court is Arlen Specter. Its no wonder, Senator Specter votes with Schumer and the liberals time after time. We look forward to Hillary Clinton and Ted Kennedys endorsement of Specter soon. (06/11/03)

WASHINGTON (AP) Sen. Charles Schumer, currently leading the Democrats' filibuster of two judicial nominees, sent a letter to President Bush Tuesday suggesting nominees for possible Supreme Court vacancies including Republican Sen. Arlen Specter.
Schumer, D-N.Y., made his recommendations in case a sitting justice should leave the nine-member Supreme Court in the near future. Supreme Court-watchers say one or two resignations among the aging justices are more likely than in recent years.
Schumer's suggested list of five candidates includes Specter and Michael Mukasey, a Ronald Reagan appointee now serving as chief judge of the federal court in Manhattan. He also recommends judges Anne Williams, Edward Prado and Stanley Marcus, all current federal appeals court judges nominated by Republican presidents.
Schumer's effort to block the nominations of lawyer Miguel Estrada and Texas Supreme Court Judge Priscilla Owens has angered Republicans, who have suggested redrafting Senate rules to prevent filibusters of judicial nominees.
Schumer's letter also offers a fair dose of criticism of Bush's judicial nomination process so far. Critics have said Bush is trying to load the courts with ultraconservative judges. Should a vacancy occur on the Supreme Court, Bush has pledged to pick a firm ideological conservative in the mold of justices Antonin Scalia or Clarence Thomas.
"You, more than any other president in history, have chosen judges through an ideological prism," Schumer wrote in the letter. The Estrada-Owens conflict "has frustrated both of us," he wrote. "If you were to select a mainstream nominee, you would do the process, the judiciary and the nation a real service."
Specter said in a statement: "I appreciate Sen. Schumer's recommendation, but I am sure that the president already has his short list if a vacancy arises." A White House spokeswoman could not immediately be reached for comment.
Schumer suggests the White House discuss possible nominees with the Senate before a seat on the bench is even vacant.
The senator argues in the letter that both sides should try to come up with a candidate who will receive universal support in the closely divided Senate.
"The White House needs to find someone who all 100 Senators can support, not just 51 Republicans," Schumer said. "Look, we don't have to have a big fight about this, we don't want to have a big fight about this, but that means some real consultation."

Sen. "Specter the Defector" May Be Joining Democrats
It is the hottest talk in Washington.
Pennsylvania Republican Sen. Arlen Specter is considering jumping ship and helping the Democrats take control of the Senate.
The Republicans control the 50-50 Senate by a hair - Dick Cheney's tie-breaking vote.
But that could change if just one Republican would defect to the Democrats.
Specter may be the one. He is a self-described liberal Republican who gets plenty of airtime bashing conservatives in his own party.
During the Clinton impeachment process, he proved his liberal stripes by joining with Democrats not to have the president removed from office.
Specter, in a bizarre Senate speech, invoked arcane Scottish law as his reasoning for not removing Clinton.
Washington has been abuzz for while about Specter's off-the-wall comments and mental well-being.
At one recent committee meeting, Specter excused himself to the restroom and returned, apparently oblivious to the fact that toilet paper was hanging from his pants.
On TV appearances, Specter's public comments also have raised eyebrows.
Appearing on TV shows, Specter's answers to questions never seem to match the question and his responses seem to be heavily scripted.
Ad lib comments made by Specter during Senate committee hearings often are nonsensical. Hill staffers still talk about the time he questioned a nominee for a federal judgeship intensively about the judge's experiences in a federal courthouse cafeteria.

If you want to evict a liberal from the Senate GOP....
If you want to replace a fence-straddling RINO with an electable conservative....
If you want to help create a conservative majority in the US Senate...
..then put your money where your mouth is. (Mine is worth $25 so far)
From the site:
"Since he first arrived in Congress, Pat Toomey has been one of the House of Representatives most consistent, articulate and effective advocates for reducing the federal tax burden. Congressman Toomey believes our taxes are too highbecause the government spends too much. That is why Congressman Toomey has never voted for a tax increase but hasat every opportunityvoted to cut taxes."
"In addition to tax relief, Congressman Toomey has worked for fundamental tax reform. He has cosponsored H.R. 1040, the Freedom and Fairness Restoration Act. This legislation scraps the entire current income tax code and would require Congress to implement an honest, fair and simple flat tax or national sales tax."
"Congressman Toomeys lifetime grade with the National Taxpayer Union is 'A'."
"Congressman Pat Toomey is an ardent defender of the Second Amendment. A fundamental aspect of personal liberty is the right to self-defense and Pat Toomey has never, and will never, undermine this basic right. In addition, Congressman Toomey knows that criminal activity will never be reduced by restricting the Constitutional Right of law-abiding, adult citizens to own guns. Such proposals, like many efforts to restrict personal freedom, may be well-intentioned, but are misguided and often counterproductive."

"You're totally right about the Pryor nomination. Don't forget that Specter grilled Pryor on whether he "supported the right to choose" instead of asking softball q's like the other Republican Senators."
This is part of the questioning by Specter, according to Byron York of the National Review Online:
"Later, Pennsylvania Republican Arlen Specter went over the same ground. Did Pryor really say such a thing? Specter asked. Was the quote accurate?
Yes, Pryor said, the quote was accurate.
Did Pryor stand by his words?
"I stand by that comment," Pryor said. "I believe that not only is [Roe] unsupported by the text and structure of the Constitution, but it has led to a morally wrong result. It has led to the slaughter of millions of innocent unborn children."
Specter seemed more than a little chagrined. "Well," he said, pausing for a moment and looking down, "let's move on.""
Specter was scared to death to pursue the point, since he knows that his pro-abortion views could well cost him the Republican nomination. Specter wants to keep his liberal views below the radar, and I think he only asked the Roe v. Wade question in the first place because he never thought Pryor would mention the fact that it has led to "the slaughter of millions of innocent unborn children." Pryor has done more for Toomey's candidacy than all of his House colleagues combined (just last week, pro-life Republican Congressman Phil English asked Toomey to return the campaign donation he made in 2002). We need to keep pushing Specter against the wall and get him to show his true colors. Specter is too socially liberal not only for the Pennsylvania Republican electorate, but for Pennsylvania as a whole.
