The daily tracking polls covering the Allard/Strickland race have taken a strange turn over the last few days.
The Rocky Mountain News poll (Talmey-Drake) now shows Allard with a 4 point lead, representing a 8 point swing from late last week. http://www.rockymountainnews.com/drmn/election/article/0,1299,DRMN_36_1511556,00.html
The Denver Post poll (Ciruli) has gone in the opposite direction. Allard, up 8 points on October 24 has fallen to a 2 point lead. http://www.ciruli.com/polls/tracking02.htm I have maintained that Ciruli has a better history of accuracy so I am concerned about the GOP decline in his poll. Both polls have shown significant fluctuation (especially for a tracking poll) over the last week. We are still a day or two away from seeing if there is a bounce from Bush's visit.
One note, the Post poll is showing undecideds under 10% for the first time with Allard gaining ground. This would seem to indicate that Allard, at this point in time, is picking up a higher percentage of the undecideds. Along with Gov. Owens continuing to poll in the 60% range, I still am rating the race as a "lean GOP". By Friday we should have a good idea of how the race will break.
