Democratic candidate for Secretary of State doesn't understand the duties of the job he is running for He will be disappointed to learn that the Department of State no longer oversees the state's history - Governor John Engler established the Michigan Department of History, Arts and Libraries. This department was created by statute over a year ago "The Secretary of State no longer plays a role in the state's history department, and hasn't for over a year now," said Michigan Republican Party Chairman Rusty Hills. "I realize given his lack of experience in working with the Secretary of State office, Mr. Hollowell has quite a learning curve to overcome," said Michigan Republican Party Chairman Rusty Hills. "But I would have thought by now that he would have at least learned the constitutional and statutory duties of the office. "After eight tremendous years of customer service and innovation from Secretary of State Candice Miller, we can ill-afford a replacement that is unprepared and uninformed," Hills added.
"Maybe Mr. Hollowell should call Candice Miller and have her fax him a copy of the job description. If he really knew what the position entailed, he might not even be interested in the job," Hills concluded.
