State Sen. Marilyn Musgrave handily beat Jeff Bedingfield in the Republican primary election late Tuesday, and she quickly got in position for a potentially bitter fight with the Democratic candidate in the general election.
I think tonight is a night when we can all take a deep breath and really celebrate and get ready to take on Stan the tax man, Musgrave said, referring to Democrat state Sen. Stan Matsunaka, whom she will face in the general election.

Must confess that I had never heard of the Club for Growth until you brought it up! Searched on Yahoo and found their web page. Not surprised that they would support Marilyn!

I knew Marilyn was good when the Denver post all but said she had no other issues except for gun rights. Way to go!

Yes she did, but we knew that she would.

Steve Moore, who was and maybe still is with the Cato Institute, has done great things with the Club for Growth. They support free-market candidates in the primary, and get people to donate money to candidates they like, much like Emily's list. What's nice about them is that they're willing to take on incumbents in the primary. while their record of success at the ballot box has been mixed, they've gotten some reps to vote more conservatively on economic issues to avoid a primary fight.
This year, they've picked more winners than losers. They also won't support a candidate that they don't think has a decent chance of winning. Also, by focusing on the primary, they've been able to do much more than the hair-brained LP members, who never vote for a candidate that gets more than ten percent of the vote.
Suppose your district is represented by a moderate, tax-and-spend Republican. But this Republican does vote for the Republican house leadership, and sometimes with the Republcians against the Rats. If you're the CfG, you mount a primary challenge, Maybe you pick him off, and then the winning Republican, who's a very good economic conservative, has a very good chance at winning the general election. If the CfG loses the primary, then they move on. Or, if you're the LP, you run a candidate in the general election who gets six percent of the vote and allows the Dem to win.
Focusing on primaries is awesome, and is much better than voting LP.
