In their zeal to slice and dice Oakland County's volatile electorate to maximal advantage, Republican state legislators may have landed one of their party's congressional stalwarts in the fight of his political life.

U.S. Rep. Joe Knollenberg of Bloomfield Township, who formally launched his campaign for a sixth term Friday night at a GOP pep rally in Troy, was first elected to Congress in 1992. In the decade since, his district has drifted slightly to the left -- Bill Clinton carried it in 1996, and Al Gore fought George Bush to a draw there in 2000 -- but Knollenberg himself has scarcely broken a sweat in four reelection campaigns.

Fink is just AWFUL. He's a real weasel, POS, ASD'er and plain sucks.

Knollenberg's district is more GOP than before. He loses some support with Livonia and Novi gone, but he picks up Troy and Rochester. He loses Southfield, which is HUGE. He gains Pontiac though, which sucks for him.

Fink will spend up to 2 million, so this can be a tough race, but Knollenberg has always run 8-10% ahead of the ticket.

These reporters are really quite ignorant. And not many of them seem very bright. We all simply run circles around them in my experience.

Yep. Southfield had 30,000 dems(Gore). Pontiac is about as dem percentagewise, but has 15,000 dems.

Also, what isn't mentioned is that a large number of those NW Oakland voters he loses to Rogers, wasn't part of his district. It was part of Dale Kildee's district. He loses most of his Oakland area to McCotter.

Knollenberg, whose from Bloomfield Hills, also does well with Jewish voters. He won West Bloomfield which leans dem(Gore won by 14%), even though his opponent last time(and the time before) was Jewish. He won Farmington Hills as well. I think the only area he lost last time was Southfield(66% went to the dem, 83% Gore)

The old District.
He doesn't lose any of this to Rogers. Southfield and Lathrup to Levin, and the rest of it to McCotter.

There you go, trying to cheer me up from losing Dingell. Sigh. I'm going to the range, once I get done here at work. Maybe that'll reduce my frustration level...
