Whereas I dislike Ryan intensely, I will vote for him just to win against Blago.

I hope that doesn't mean Clinton's people will be in Illinois stumping for Blag. I was really hoping all of the clinton people would lose. I guess I'll have to wait until November.

Am I the only person who feels peeved when reporters state that Republicans control both houses and the governor's mansion? Calling King George a Republican is about as accurate as calling Hitler a pacifist.

For the purpose of things like appointing senators to the U. S. Senate or signing redistricting plans, Ryan is a Republican.

What have been his actions in those regards? Has he refused to let the Democrats jerrymander themselves a lead in the state legislatures, or has he rolled over like a nice obedient lap dog? And when's the last time he appointed a Senator?

How many crossovers do you think Wood got and where did they come from???

There was some reporting last night that the crossover voting was the other way....Repubs taking a Dem ballot and voting for Blag! Frankly, if I had thought of it, I probably would have done the same thing.

Vallis was the tough one to beat...Blaggie will be much easier. He's sooooo liberal.

First, if the GOP controls the state house and state seante, there are no Democrats to be rolled over by. The redistricting process is fairly simple-- the legislature passes a plan and the governor signs it into law. If the Democrats don't have control of any of those three parts, they are merely spectators.

Regarding appointments of U. S. senators, I didn't suggest he had the opportunity, I just said that if Durbin or Fitzgerald were to die, they'd both be replaced by a Republican who would not support Tom Daschle as Majority Leader. Same as in CT where Lieberman would have been replaced by someone who wouldn't have supported Daschle had Lieberman been elected VP.

RINOs are always better than Democrats.

In Illinois, there is a panel with IIRC five Democrats and five Republicans which is responsible for redistricting. If this panel can't come up with a plan that's agreeable to a majority (it never does), the name of an 11th panel member is drawn from a hat. The Democrats won the draw for this decade, so they got to draw up the district plan.

King George probably would have replaced Fitzgerald with a Republican, but probably would have replaced Durbin with someone who wouldn't upset the balance of power in Congress (i.e. a Democrat or an "independent" who votes the Democrat line)

RINOs are always better than Democrats.

Poshard was pro-life, pro-RKBA (pro-concealed carry), and favored smaller government. You're saying King George was better than him?
