Republicans risk erasing gains with young voters
The Hill ^ | 01/07/26 | Julia Mueller and Caroline Vakil

Recent polling has shown young voters overwhelmingly disapproving of Trump and the GOP amid increasing anxiety over the state of the economy, while young people played a big role in helping Democrats win in 2025’s off-year races.

“If you’re 29 and you’re paying out the nose for health care, and you can’t own your own home and groceries are killing you, you don’t really care about the conversations about tariffs. That’s not where you’re living. You’re living at, ‘Hey, I need the price of eggs to drop,’” said Brett Loyd, a longtime Republican pollster who now works with an independent firm.

Young voters have long favored Democrats, but Trump cut significantly into that advantage in 2024, particularly among young men, rattling a party that has long relied on the bloc.

Republican strategist Ron Bonjean said the figures “should be very concerning to Republicans,” though he argued they’re not entirely surprising for the president’s party in a midterm year.

Adam Pennings, executive director of Run GenZ, a group founded by Trump appointee Joe Mitchell that supports young Republicans running for office, echoed that statement

Umm... the price of eggs has dropped under Trump - a lot.

And I bought gas last week a $2.10 a gallon. Under Biden, gas was $4.15 per gallon

Not sure about this poll but if it's for real, the Trump Team needs to get better at messaging

Only because Trump is not on the ballot—there may be some truth to this.

The 'bro' vote may not show up this time.

But that's because RINOs will remain RINOs. Why should we bote for them?

*****************

They aren’t going to show up.

The 2026 midterms will be a battle between Republican & democrat partisans plus independents that vote.

Young people saw what Biden did to them - they’re not going back to the ‘boys in girls bathrooms’ party...

Everyone should be clear eyed about where the Republican Party really stands. They didn’t make inroads with the youth vote. Trump did. They didn’t gain support amount latinos. Trump did. Follow that pattern because that is reality. They should be standing shoulder to shoulder with Trump trying to do everything in their power to enshrine into law everything Trump is pushing. At least 90% of it. They are not and they will get destroyed in the midterms and my bet is that Trump will pass Medicare for all and a dreamers bill. Trump is a deal maker. The second Democrats show a willingness to work with him they can get a lot of their goodies passed.

I dunno - the siren lure of Hot Girl Olivia Julianna, former young male outreach director for the Democratic Party, will bring them in like the actual Sirens did to Odysseus's men...

Anyone still complaining about the cost of eggs…has not been shopping for eggs.

What cost me $8.50 last January (18 eggs) cost me $1.97 last week.

Everyone should be clear eyed about where the Republican Party really stands.

Really, they're for the DS and the MIC.

They want to get paid so according to them, MAGA is an obstacle that they'll have to navigate.

Their goal is to outlast Trump and his movement.

But by at that point, it will be the collapse of the Republican Party. Especially if they refuse to embrace the MAGA movement.

Similar to what happened to the Tories in the UK.

(Usually just end up getting something more basic, like the store brand - and I think the price evens out to being reasonable anyway.)
