Military vets are also affected and their transition back into civilian life and employment can be complicated. Wish there were separate programs assisting them but Dept of Veterans Affairs is a mess…

If the Republican-led legislation is signed into law, the Congressional Budget Office has estimated 2.9 million Americans, including 270,000 veterans, homeless people and former foster youth, could lose SNAP benefits.

Conservatism deals with the reality of the world as it is. “Complicated and beautiful, tragic and hopeful, we believe in the rights and the responsibilities and the inherent dignity of the individual. We don’t believe that human nature is perfectible; we’re suspicious of government efforts to fix problems because often what it’s trying to fix is human nature, and that is impossible. It is what it is. But that doesn’t mean that we’re resigned to, well, any negative destiny. Not at all. I believe in striving for the ideal, but within the realistic confines of human nature…” ~ Sarah Palin

I mean, like WORK WORK? Are you nuts? Where’s your humanity?

LoL thanks for the reminder.

I think our founders expected Church to play a bigger role than State in addressing these matters.

Where is Church. 🤷🏻‍♀️ (I do need to be be better about donating to Catholic food bank.)

Nobody needs to starve.

We should be able to serve Nutriloaf as sustenance until people get back on their feet.

If you won't eat it, you ain't hungry.

We barely count the billions we give to any deadbeat foreigner with their hands out. Argentina, Israel, Ukraine, Pakistan, the other Stans, etc.

Then of course, big tech, pharma, Palantir, the “too big to fail banks” etc...

But if something directly benefits some poor working class schlub, a veteran, or a kid coming out of foster care... DC draws a hard line and stands firm to stop that crap!

HEALTHY ADULTS being required to 'either work, look for work, volunteer or take classes 20 hours a week' seems very reasonable to me.

The church played a role for disabled people, not for parasites. Our founders expected all citizens to work to feed themselves.

These parasites who plan to steal from Walmart should be deported somewhere along with all the illegals.

I’m in favor of assistance for those disabled or otherwise incapable of work. Mostly those kids who are exiting foster care, I think they also deserve a break, but with requirements to begin working or gonig to school somewhere.

Wow I didn’t think of it that way.

Yes. Those requirements allow them to gain skills, knowledge and connections; so they are more than just ‘requirements’, they constitute education.

What are they going to be doing, anyway, if they aren’t working in some capacity or going to school?

I don’t see what the argument against this is.

You probably didn’t think of it that way because it makes no sense.

If what the article states is accurate, DC isn’t drawing a ‘hard line’ on this; it’s just demanding some modest requirements which in the end will benefit the young person.

Why drag veterans into this showdown with the democrats over whether or not to continue giving free stuff to their illegal pets, and continue subsidising “Affordable Care” or it might double in price, because covid.
I doubt veterans—who tend to be self-sufficient—appreciate being conflated or lumped with illegal aliens and street bums.
What happened to “Teach a man to fish ...”? I’ll tell you.
A lot of these illegals and hobos have no interest in giving up free fish, as long as we taxpayers are willing to fish for them.

I’ve got the recipe for that and some day will make it. Nutritionally it’s got great stuff in it.

I recently made some museum grade hardtack.

There is a lot more social dysfunction nowadays than back in the “teach a man to fish” days — families are broken, physical and sexual abuse of minors is way too hellishly commonplace, you don’t know your neighbors and they are not there for you in rough times as they themselves are battling modern demons…

PTSD is definitely a thing and can be very debilitating. It’s not a cop out, it’s why suicide rates are highest among former military and…foster kids. Far more than general public.

Sometimes getting back to work ASAP can help…but a lot of times, there needs to be a long season of psychological therapy, alcohol and drug rehab, etc…

Getting back into fight or flight survival mode can push people over the edge.

20 hours that’s it. Pretty damn lenient IMHO. Especially for a young adult.
