Can Donald Trump Still Dominate the GOP?
PJ Media ^ | 01/11/2021 | Rick Moran

The popular narrative circulating in Washington is that Donald Trump is finished. Even if, after a while, he tries to make a comeback, his brand has become so toxic that it’s unlikely he can dominate the Republican stage anymore. He won’t be invited to speak at Republican gatherings. He won’t be asked to campaign for GOP candidates. He will be shunned by the Republican Party now and forevermore.

Oh, really?

Indeed, losing access to Twitter crippled Trump and his ability to communicate with his followers. But no one has taken away his email account. And there are other social media platforms that would be happy to host him.

As far as the GOP, most party members will be glad to see the back of him. But Donald Trump still has the support of millions of Americans. For many, he will still be their president. There are many congressional districts where candidates would be glad to campaign with Trump and be seen with him because even though opposition to the soon-to-be-former president is likely to become even more unhinged than it is now, there will be plenty of voters who like and admire him.

In short, Donald Trump isn’t going anywhere despite many Republicans wishing he’d just disappear and not bother them anymore.

From The financial times:

"A civil war has opened up within the party between Mr Trump’s defiant loyalists and a growing cast of critics, and between Republican lawmakers and their disillusioned corporate donors. The party is split on whether to engage with the incoming administration of Joe Biden or obstruct it.

Adding to these dilemmas is the question of the party’s relationship with Mr Trump and his family once he leaves office. "

A recent poll tells the tale. “According to a snap YouGov survey released on Thursday, just 27 percent of Republicans considered the attack on the Capitol a threat to democracy, while 45 percent of them approved of the storming of the halls of Congress.”

Other polls show less support for the assault on the Capitol. But what’s undeniable is that there are many members of Congress who have quite different opinions of Trump than their constituents.

“There’s very high tension running between members’ conscience, and what their constituents want,” said Brendan Buck, a former senior Republican congressional aide, and a partner at Seven Letter, a consultancy in Washington. “I am hesitant to think that this is going to cause any real sea change.”

Where does that leave the party? Trump will lead the grassroots, but what of the rest?

“He truly made this party’s grassroots strength a cult of personality,” [former senior Trump administration official Tony] Fratto said. “And unlike any other president who has lost, he has no intention of leaving the arena. And he has no intention of stopping his leadership of that faction of the party. So I think it’s going to be very rocky,” he said. Carlos Curbelo, a former Republican representative from Florida, said the majority of his former GOP colleagues in Congress had come to accept the reality that Trumpism was no longer a “long-term strategy” for the party.

My so-called LACK of representative Mike Rogers of Alabama is WORTHLESS. I will never vote for that bum again. Next election I will vote for anyone else. I will put somebody else’s name in a block other than this punk. Worthless piece of scum. Another RINO.

The GOP abandoned the President. He owes them nothing. He can create a new Patriot party that will have massive support from Americans. Make Mitch wear the annihilation of the Republican Party.

Yet another scumbag who inverts reality. Trump’s voters support him because he supports them on their issues. It’s everyone else who relies on used car sales bait and switch. You vote for them and they do the opposite of what their voters want.

GOP?
The GOP is dead.
Most of the GOP has morphed into RINOs.
Donald should switch parties and become a Whig, then everyone who hates RINO politics can change parties to Whig and leave the GOP in the dust.

Anyone who thinks he can't or won't is likely to be disappointed.

No.

We have entered a period like the 1850’s, where one major political party died (Whig) and was replaced by another political party (Republican).

The Republicans of that time, unlike the Whigs, took their platform seriously. Which was: end slavery, protect individual rights, end violence and fraud in elections.

The end of that period was the Civil War.

I don’t know if we’re heading to a shooting war, but we’re clearly headed though a period that will be just as tumultuous as the 1850’s.

And one of those changes will be the end of the GOP.

From the list of GOP senators up in 2022....I can only see three or four not being primaried out of existence. Probably 15 new characters arriving.

Even Rubio and Blunt....gone.

Typical push poll. The truth is it wasn’t an “attack”, it wasn’t a “threat to Democracy” but it also wasn’t anything to “approve of”.

GOP is dead.... they committed suicide...

They let an election be stolen and did NOTHING about it...

They are DEAD... How can you be a “Republican” if you just refused to defend the Republic?

Trump isn’t going away, and this idiotic leftist tech purge is going to make his standing all that much stronger...

America First, period.... GOP clearly doesn’t believe this, at least at the establishment level

I am done with them. Why bother voting, when the victors have been selected and the vote doesn’t matter anyway.

A Republic if we can keep it?

The ruling class has absolutely no respect or fear of those they govern, and its clear they have zero intention to anytime soon.

The government is now utterly illegitimate.

I feel the same way, but the socialists will end the electoral college, add 2 liberal states, pack the courts and have acedemia, news, hollyweird that will back them up. I can't wait for the day the communist american government seizes all their companies and fortunes.

The GOP is dead. Most of the GOP has morphed into RINOs.

While many here know that the Republicans and Democrats have been halves of the Uniparty for decades, President Trump exposed it for all the world to see.

Both the Republicans and Democrats will still be around because the Uniparty has to keep up the charade that votes and politicians matter and both sides need the other to blame for their own lack of action. I could see the vote fraudsters pushing more Republicans into winning columns because you can't have the fraud be so exposed.

If enough people walk away from both halves of the Uniparty, the house of cards collapses. The Congress has no clothes.

“The GOP abandoned the President“

Just like they did - US.

Neither we nor President Trump owe them ANYTHING.

Without Donald Trump, the GOP is dead. We 70+ million Trump voters support HIM. He just happened to pick the Republican Party in which to run.

Nobody needs the GOP anymore. Not even the democrats.
