To make an informed choice, lets make sure we know both sides of each issue. If you will allow me to share the reason for a NO vote on Proposition 15 being the wisest choice, please read on:
Prop.15 is the biggest property tax in CA history and if passed will be devastating to CA; everyone living here, even teachers being asked to support it, can expect a very much higher cost of living,
Corporations and businesses employ families. If CA raises taxes on them, employees and families that work here suffer. There would be business owners that would lose their businesses and workers who would be laid off. This would not be good for CA teachers. If businesses and corporations are forced out of state, less families would be employed here and less families would stay. A large exit from CA means less children in LAUSD schools. Schools would lose money. (Teachers would pay the price with less teacher positions, possible loss of wages or more ramifications.)
Even if corporations had 11 billion extra dollars lying around EVERY YEAR to fund this tax increase all by themselves, would they? This tax increase will absolutely be passed on to us consumers. You will pay higher for essential things like groceries, home and auto insurance, maintenance and repair, office supplies and health care. Think about the high cost for those of us with loved ones in assisted living homes. We already pay enormous costs if our parents worked all their lives and do not qualify for government assistance. (Higher taxes on all business properties mentioned would pass this cost onto us consumers). We would also pay more for recreational costs and services at hair salons, shopping malls, restaurants, and movie theaters; basically wherever we spend our money, it will cost us Californians 11 billion more dollars EVERY year. Higher costs also contribute to more homelessness.
I urge supporters of this bill to reconsider with your heart: Think about all the businesses on lockdown for 7 months, trying to restart their businesses (and also those which were ransacked by looters, vandals, and rioters in recent months) only to come back (if prop 15 passes) to be hit with exorbitant taxes on top of that. These increased losses would put many out of business completely. With CAs mandatory lockdowns, some are barely hanging on as it is. This past Sunday a wonderful Steinmart store nearby lost its business. Those in the business world warn many more losses will be coming because of these lockdowns.
To people who say that Disney or Vons Market need to pay their fair share, I say that those business are paying their fair share because when they bought that property they agreed to an established amount of taxes and Prop. 13 was in place to insure their taxes would stay consistent. To tax them so exorbitantly now was nothing they had planned fifty, thirty or even ten years ago. HJTA, an organization who has been protecting taxpayers for a long while, says, Proposition 13 became part of the State Constitution when voters approved it in 1978 with a vote of nearly 65 percent. Before Prop. 13, property taxes were an average of 2.67% of the current market value of the property every yearas market values went up, tax bills went up with them. People who couldnt pay the higher taxes were forced to sell. Under Proposition 13, this stopped. Property is now assessed at the fair market value at the time of change of ownership, with annual increases of no more than 2 percent. Prop. 13 also cut the tax rate to 1 percent statewide. Businesses in CA help our CA economy. It is not good for CAs economy for established businesses to be forced to leave. This proposition will also not encourage businesses to come here. It sends them to states where business taxes are not as high. Why would businesses come to CA to pay some of the highest taxes in the nation?
HJTA says, Prop. 15 would make Californias brick-and-mortar businesses increasingly uncompetitive with online businesses based in other states, where costs are far lower, and would accelerate business flight out of California. (https://noon15.hjta.org/facts/)
Proponents pushing this bill also say it exempts small businesses but it absolutely does not. Small businesses will also suffer because it will raise the cost of their rental building. A rep. from the HJTA, says there is no protection at all for them. The rep. explains, for example a small business, leasing an office space from a large land owner, has a triple net lease (that is they have to pay the maintenance, the insurance and the property tax on that space).
So the big owner passes on the rates to the smaller business owner. If the small business owner cannot afford that, he/she could lose their business, and the large landowner also suffers because if no-one can afford to rent his/her land he/she has to move out of state taking CA jobs with them.
Hillary Hoffower, from Millennial Wealth, says, You get what you pay for but that may not always be the case when it comes to federal taxes. A lot of federal tax money is immediately rerouted back to the states in the form of grants, which the state uses to spend on resources. But in some states, (including California and New Jersey) some taxpayers are left spending more in taxes than what they receive back in federal services. (https://www.businessinsider.com/federal-taxes-federal-services-difference-by-state-2019-1?op=1)
In summary, Vote No on Proposition 15. Why raise your cost of living when we already pay so much in taxes and dont even receive back in federal services what we put into it? In summary, Prop. 15 confiscates billions of dollars from you and me, All Californians will pay the price for higher costs at every business we frequent every year.
Thank you for your time and consideration about this.
Hope all Californians say no to this proposition that is devastating for CA.
Also have all of you heard of Craig Huey: He gives voter recommendations. He researches everything and is conservative and wise.
https://www.craighuey.com/voter-recommendations/
Also the Howard Jarvis Tax Association has voter guides too.
I’ve been told by other conservatives: Yes on 20 and 22, no on everything else. The opposite of what my teacher’s union suggest, so it makes sense.
My wife is a Kalifornia teacher near Sacramento and is voting NO on 15.
Her teaching partner is doing the same.
That’s exactly how we’re voting.
You’re expecting people who are too stupid to do anything but vote for Democrats to get it right on this one. Good luck with that one.
I got the word out to them.
Now I will turn to the Lord in prayer. He is my hope.
Californicators Already are Forced to pay some of the highest prices for goods and services. Triple the taxes on your downtown merchants, shopping mall, grocery store, pharmacy, and other shops and just watch the price tags go UP UP UP on just about everything you want to buy.
This is the La Raza camels nose under the tent.
First repeal 13 for businesses.
Then repeal it for homeowners.
The roll in the cash as it gets siphoned off into the pockets of Los Illegales with the skim going to Rat party operatives.
The conservatives in CA are fighting two fronts: the rats in CA, and the rats in the USA! You ppl are heroes and my heart goes out to you!!
Greetings from Republican bastion Placer County! Its tough here deep behind enemy lines, and the bashing on this forum of CA in toto gets old. California delivered more votes for Trump in 2016 than the entire total population of the 25 least populous states. Having our efforts recognized by a true FRiend feels good for a change. Thank you!
Thank you. God bless America and keep our President and His family safe and all of us as well. amen!
Yes, I have many many conservative friends here in CA.
We are praying!
