Self-censorship is on the rise according to a new Cato Institute survey that reports nearly two-thirds of Americans are afraid to share their political views.
A new CATO Institute/YouGov national survey found 62% of Americans say the political climate today prevents them from saying what they believe. This is up several points from 2017 when 58% of Americans said they were afraid to share their political beliefs.
31% of liberals, 30% of moderates and 34% of conservatives are worried their political views could get them fired or harm their career trajectory, the CATO survey stated.

Trump wins in a landslide. If the Dems are afraid to talk it ain’t because they support Biden.
My thinking as well.
I call complete bullshit to libs being afraid of ANYTHING except being labeled STUPID for their political views.
on the other hand, conservatives are rightly afraid of losing their jobs, having their property ruined and/or being physically attacked or killed.
The good thing about not having any Democrat friends is you don’t have to listen to them smugly expressing their virtue.
Not afraid, just smart enough to not bother. Most of the 62% are too busy stocking up to be running their yaps.
High fives all around at the DNC
Not since a Bush/Cheney bumper sticker got my new Acura SUV keyed: both sides and back.
Among Republicans, it’s more like 75% are afraid to state their views.
That’s a lot of silent Trump voters. A whole lot.
If I were younger, with my career ahead of me, I would keep my opinions to myself. I’d only share with people I trust. No way I’d tweet, facebook, instagram, or whatever webbydoodle thing is out there. If you work for someone else, you never know when someone with power will see, and not like your views.
I’m at the end of my career, so I share a lot of stuff on FB, with my real name. It upsets my oldest son who has drifted left, (a liberal girlfriend will do that). I don’t care. Like it, or ignore it, it’s what I believe.
How can anyone vote to continue living like that?
which is why polls are useless
Very true-”...conservatives are rightly afraid of losing their jobs, having their property ruined and/or being physically attacked or killed.”
Where I work-I’d sure be kicked out...and I have already parted ways with some relatives.
I’m not ‘afraid’ to, I just don’t see much point in it.
Yeah, one can get terminated very quickly.
Of course. What do you expect will happen when all those right winger gangs are out burning and looting and boycotting your business because they dont like your political views.
Oops, darn spellcheck turned my left into a right. Has Google infected FR?
Yes and we are witnessing what a Marxist and Fascist revolution looks like and it's ugly and evil! I've been speaking out whenever I have the opportunity and have lost several friends in the process, progressives who are knowingly ignorant and are supportive of this evil. Anybody who supports this chaos is in bed with Satan!
The good thing about not having any Democrat friends is you dont have to listen to them smugly expressing their virtue.
.................................................
My acquaintances and relatives who “may” lean to the Left have been taught in various ways to NEVER express a single word in my presence supportive of any anti-American, liberal, progressive, socialist, communist bullsh*t!
As a Boomer I remember as a kid reading about J. Edgar Hoover battling Communists (his book Masters of Deceit) , writer Mickey Spillane punching one of them during a confrontation on a NYC dock and the guy fell into the river, and how good it was to be in America where we could speak our minds unlike the Soviets and Mao’s Chinese.
We should “thank” the lousy Dems for taking our freedoms away. People have to carefully see who’s watching or listening now. Woman last week on Rush said “I had to shut my door and no one knows I am talking with you now here at work.”
Will soon get much worse.
