Trump vows to 'strongly regulate' social media after Twitter flags two of president's posts

President Trump said Wednesday that he will “strongly regulate” or even “close down” social media platforms, one day after Twitter flagged two of his posts.

The president made the vow on Twitter after the social media platform added a message to the tweets that linked to a page disputing the accuracy of his posts.

Trump and other conservatives argue that social media is censuring or silencing their messages.

Read more “Republicans feel that Social Media Platforms totally silence conservatives voices,” Trump said over two tweets Wednesday morning. “We will strongly regulate, or close them down, before we can ever allow this to happen. We saw what they attempted to do, and failed, in 2016. We can’t let a more sophisticated version of that happen again.”

If there _ever_ was a time to break up tech giants it was obviously long ago. But DC is not part of USA so nothing it done to these propaganda systems.

Had almost forgotten, Facebook for quite some time has/had a link to tell how conservative/liberal one is.

Think I was independent, as I never discuss politics there.

Of course, I’ve had to unfollow probably half my “Friends” to avoid seeing their mindless endless hate.

No lectures, please, haha. FB serves me well, as does twitter Trump.

It would be well within President Trump’s powers to issue an Executive Order stating that websites and social media platforms must adhere to policies that protect and promote Conservative opinions.

And well within the power of the websites and social media platforms to ignore it. They aren't part of the executive branch. Trump can't order them to do anything through EO.

ensuring freedom is not totalitarian. What google, FB and Twitter and youtube do is Totalitarian.

When I call someone T-Mobile doesn’t block my call for content. When I mail a letter the USPS doesn’t block the content. My e-mails are not blocked for content. Why is it I can’t have that freedom when I use social media to post messages? They seem like public utilities to me.

They should be brought to heal by the FCC or someone because they function as monopolies or trusts.

Also stifling political speech effects our elections. If google, twitter, FB and others all block conservative speech they control the elections.

Now the Left pressures Paypal, Amazon, et al to refuse service to some entities on political grounds.

Only SOME cakes have to be baked

Exactly, they must be brought under control, since they are clearly public utilities at this time.

Twitter would tell you the same thing, and Jim removes content and zots users - just like Twitter.

just need a regulation that free speech applies to their subscribers a sit does to other forms of communication. That’s not a lot of control and much less than the control they are applying.

The ability exists to drop all packets to/from an entity like twitter at the main switches.

The NSA already has control of them...not just a room with a splitter forwarding a copy of all packets.

Give them a taste of what happened in the old sci-fi film “The Day The Earth Stood Still” and drop all their packets for an hour as a warning.

Let them fight in the courts, they will not prevail...and discovery would be a delight to watch on live TV :-)

Dear Mr President, when RBG bites the dust, suspend the house and senate, as is your right under the constitution, and appoint someone to replace her that would be the progressive/communists worst nightmare. And use the blackmail info that the deep state has been using on Roberts and replace him at the same time.

Use the blackmail info that is surely in the NSA database to
reign in congress....the amount of dirt on them must be staggering.

Mainstream broadcast media has no right of free speech as they have collective sway. Twitter resorted to mainstream broadcast fact check, equivalent of shouting fire in theater. It is going beyond mere discussion but creating hysteria.

Twitter referred its fact checkers as mainstream media. We are talking broadcasters who have power to creat theater fire hysteria with their collective reach.

Free Republic is not a publicly traded company. Twitter is.

Makes absolutely no difference.

Twitter is not owned by the public. All publicly traded means is anyone can buy their stock. It also brings some regulation by the SEC but that's just for financial matters.
