Former Senator Jeff Flake caused a stir Saturday when he amended Republican consultant Mike Murphy's comment that 30 GOP senators would vote to impeach President Donald Trump if they could keep their votes secret. "That's not true," the former Arizona senator said. "There would be at least 35."
Until his retirement from the Senate earlier this year, Flake was among the small but notable cohort of Republican senators who remained vocal in their opposition to Trump after the election.
While most of the Senate's 53 Republican members have stuck to the White House's talking points since the House of Representatives officially launched its impeachment inquiry Tuesday, some have stopped short of towing the party's "witch hunt" line, while others have previously voiced opposition to the president that may come back to bite him.
Flake puts the number of Republicans willing to secretly oppose Trump at 35, well above the 20 who would have to publicly denounce him in order to reach the two-thirds supermajority of 67 senators, assuming all 45 Senate Democrats and both independent senators also voted to impeach. Here are 12 possibilities.

Pick 20.
“- - -which is a pile of special interest crap anyway.”
Our whole system of government has devolved to special interest crap. Get term limits, eliminate lobbying and go back to the states electing the senate again.
Imagine, our federal government representing the people and recognizing states rights again.
Seems to me Flake is Flake, which means he’s the same as lying Schiff. NOT to be take seriously period.
There are not 20 from your list who would
Vote to convict for this Ukraine nonsense. Many of these are already on record against it. Repeating your own nonsense over and over isnt going to make it true.
I would seriously consider that a few Democrats would cross over, especially if they live in RED States and are up for election. Just saying.
I don't know if under those circumstances Pence could win the election, but the Democrats would very likely gain control of the Senate.
Maybe that's what some of them want anyway--retire on their comfortable pensions or (if not up for re-election in 2020) enjoy being a powerless minority in the Senate. They've had practice with that and may find it more congenial than being in the majority.
Even with the constant barrage of lies from the mainstream media, it's hard to see the majority of the American people believing that Trump deserves to be removed from office.
Quislings ... Flake says he knows other like him.
Any Senate Republican who votes to remove Trump will be primaried and probably lose...so they’re not going to vote that way, regardless of how much they may hate Trump.
Thank you.
Trump is an outsider who threatens the norm. Politicians on the national level are heavily invested in keeping the status quo. They can only be trusted as much as reelection figures into their votes.
Freegards
The ones up for re-election won’t, that’s for sure.
Would not bet on any of the others.
I do not think Kennedy is one.
PRESIDENTIAL HARASSMENT!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 28, 2019
Exactly. There is no telling how many of them are up to their ears in corruption here and overseas that they don’t want the public to see.
I also think he’s right. They don’t even need anything approaching a valid reason. President Trump isn’t one of the ruling class, so does not belong in the White House, in their idiotic opinions.
Mike Lee & Ben Sasse
Well said. Plus, it would be a public vote.
But this Ukrainian nonsense is just an excuse to open an impeachment inquiry. Now they’ll hunt and hunt for something they might try to actually impeach him on. It’s the Russian fishing expedition all over again. This nonsense has Hillary Clinton’s fingerprints all over it, in my opinion.
Flake cant count. I doubt there are any.
This is straight Democrat Party propaganda meant to cause dissension.
