Beto O'Rourke won't back down on AR-15 buy back, says Democrats should stop playing defense

PLANO — Beto O'Rourke on Sunday said Democrats should be bolder in their approach to issues related to gun control, immigration, criminal justice and climate change.

"I'm a lifelong Democrat," O'Rourke told about 300 people outside of Artcentre of Plano. "For too long Democrats have played defense ... but just like Lucy with the football, every single time that we put our best foot forward and move forward in the spirit of consensus and comprise and start in that middle position, we lose it."

O'Rourke called for a different, less compromising approach, noting that attempts at consensus building have led Democrats to vote on hundreds of miles of border fencing, mass deportations that break up families and a mass incarceration of minorities.

I did it. It’s easy and quick. If you like, add a short paragraph in the message body to ask senators to oppose any bill that includes funding to states for red flag laws. Such laws could only be useful for disarming drug addicts, when reasonable cause for suspicion allows (a no-go for Democrats...heh).

If this were 1819 Beto would already be hanging from a tree or lamppost.

“Buy back. With as many as 8 million Ar-15 type rifles in circulation that well over 6 billion dollars. What would the government do with them? Destroy them? Sell them to police forces or third world countries?”

More than 16 million by 2018 and many more by now. See the last sentence below.

In District of Columbia v. Heller, Scalia mentioned in his majority opinion that firearms “in common use” could not legally be prohibited.

So let’s promote AR-15s and make them even more common. In spite of the information in the following, Democrats will say the figure only amounts to a small percentage of the total population.

—————— Quoted Excerpts ——————

Understanding America’s Rifle

...If someone calls an AR-15-style rifle an “assault weapon,” then they’ve been duped by an agenda. The only real way to define what is an “assault weapon” is politically, as in how any given law chooses to define the term—this is why the states that have banned this category of semiautomatic firearms have done so with very different definitions.

...The term “modern sporting rifle” was coined to describe today’s very popular semiautomatic rifle designs, including the AR-15 and its offspring. These rifles are used by hunters, competitors, a lot of Americans seeking home-defense guns and by many others who simply enjoy going to the range.

Modern Sporting Rifle Facts

...They are commonly-owned, with more than 16 million modern sporting rifles owned by civilians by 2018.

The AR-15 type weapon is responsible for about 400 murders this year. I can think of other things that have caused more. In 2017, blunt objects (clubs, hammers etc) caused 467 murders. All this attention on the AR-15 is just kibuki theater meant to drive up the suburban women’s vote.

The Dem’s idea of compromising is to back off of a threat to completely ban an entire class of firearms. On this issue they have NEVER compromised, not one single time, by agreeing to an actual restoration of RKBA rights that they had previously taken away, so as to gain some different kind of infringement. To them, gun right must always either move in the direction of further infringement, leading to confiscation, or else stay still (until they can get a sufficient number of votes.

I am done with all of that.

Exactly right. Robert Francis is the totalitarian that the founding fathers knew would try to seize control of our government to take away our freedoms by force.

5 place the public or a substantial group of the public in fear of serious bodily injury; or

I already posted that he had made a threat and called in to the local radio station and was put on the air saying the same thing, that HE had threatened everyone.

Somehow, I just don't see Beto personally leading any gun confiscation raids.
