Trump's win shredded the election playbook. What will that mean for the midterms?
The Manchester Guardian ^ | October 17, 2018 | Gary Younge in Racine, Wisconsin

Roughly 10 days before the 2016 presidential election one of America’s largest unions sent a bus of volunteers from Iowa, where Hillary Clinton looked sure to lose, to Michigan, where union leaders heard she was in trouble. They called Clinton’s team to tell them what they were doing only to receive a stern rebuke. Turn the bus around they were told. Michigan is safe.

Trump won Michigan by 10,704 votes – or .23%.

The 2016 presidential election shredded the old rule book on how American elections are fought and won. Now three weeks before the midterm elections, when all of the seats for the House of representatives and a third of the seats for the Senate are contested, we still don’t know what the new rules look like. In normal times, midterms are an opportunity for the electorate to express buyer’s remorse. Two years after they vote for a president they are either disappointed he hasn’t done enough of what they wanted or angry because he’s done too much of what they didn’t want. So they take it out on his party.

Democrats should be a shoo-in to take back the House. Four of the largest five demonstrations in US history have taken place in the last two years. They have all been either against Donald Trump’s presidency or key elements of his agenda. On the left voter enthusiasm is at a record high. In September 2006, before the Democrats took back both the House and Senate during George W Bush’s second term, 42% of Democrats said they were more enthusiastic than usual about voting – this year it was 67%....

That just cannot be true.

The bus got thrown under the bus.

They thought their Detroit fraud machine had it in the bag. They failed to account for the massive blue collar Democrats swing to Trump in the Macomb and Oakland suburbs.

and this, is exactly why Hillary was not a good pick for president. Bad judgement, poor decisionmaking, lack of vision, unable to accept advice - her lifelong legacy - which would have meant disaster for the US.

Important parts of the article. In the first one the author has it backwards. It's not that the 2016 (Democrat) leader lost, so now the 2018 (Republican) leaders will lose, it's that when you factor out the leftist bias of the poll taker, the Republicans look to win by a large margin:

A New York Times/Siena College poll last month gave Republicans a six-point lead here: but then that’s precisely the average poll lead Clinton had in Wisconsin a week before the 2016 election – and she lost.
.
“When I meet people now I feel there was as much of a sense of urgency and real intensity as I’ve ever seen,” he said then. But little more than a week later Walker was reelected with an increased majority.

Yep. Bill is a magnificent politician, one of the best, and yet Hillary ignored him.

The irony is, Bill's greatest asset is his political instinct, which happens to be President Trump's also.

A million of us sang “Amazing Grace” together and the BSM ignored it at the time. Any surprise it has been memory holed to this day?

So all 435 house seats are up for grabs according to the article?

Yes. Every House seat is up for reelection every 2 years. Senate seats come up for reelection every 6 years, and not every Senate seat is in play every election.

-—Yep. Bill is a magnificent politician, one of the best, and yet Hillary ignored him.——

The fact that she seemed incapable to have learned anything from him in 40 years (or just refused to) tells you what a horror she would have been as POTUS.

“So all 435 house seats are up for grabs according to the article?”

The author looked up “Civics” and discovered the comment by Occasio-Cortez that it was an automobile model produced by Honda. Studying Civics would disrespect all the other cars produced by rival manufacturers.

Seems par for the course from the Guardian.

One thing that I think everyone’s overlooked is the impact Trump is having and will have on this mid-term election. His rallies are focused and targeted to get key races on GOP side down the stretch, and I think everyone underestimates just how effective he is at those. It goes beyond money

And completely ignored by the BSM. They were proud of it.
