Controversy is already brewing as the President plans his visit to Topeka. A local political group is planning a protest for the day of his rally.
Kris Kobach said he is thrilled that the president is coming to town to support his campaign.
"There is a lot at stake in the Kansas gubernatorial election, and he'll remind people that November 6th is the day. It's interesting in off presidential years the size of the electorate really shrinks, but I think a presidential visit reminds people that this is a big deal, he came here for a reason, and I have to get out there and vote," Kobach said.
He hopes Trump can help widen the gap in what's currently a very close race against Democrat Laura Kelly.
Not everyone is thrilled about the visit, though. Riley Vittitoe is with the political group Topeka Indivisible. They're planning an anti-trump rally for the day of the visit.
"It's really just in the very early stages since we just found out about this news. But we're going to bring signs and people to demonstrate that we support progressive values and that we are not aligned with Trump and Kobach," Vittitoe said.
The group sees this event as a chance for liberals to show up to oppose Kansas Republicans.
"We just need to act immediately and show him that not everyone in Topeka agrees with his policies and wants Kobach to be Governor," Vittitoe said.
Whether you support Trump or not, for everyone, the upcoming visit is exciting.
"It could be a once in a lifetime opportunity for people who live in the Topeka region. Obviously there will be people driving in from all over the state, but it's very rare that Topeka has a rally with a president in a political context," Vittitoe said.
Trump will also be talking about his support of Republican candidate Steve Watkins. Watkins is hoping to represent Northeast Kansas in Congress.
When will the president be in Kansas?
I didn’t see the date shown.
Trump will be holding a rally in Topeka on Oct. 6, according to CBS-affiliate WIBW.
I see. Thanks.
I hope they have lots of security to keep the roads open.
Blocking roads is their favorite road to censorship.
I thought that's what elections were for.
Does anyone know where I can find a schedule of Trump’s upcoming rallies? I want my family to attend one, even if we have to fly or drive a long distance.
Go after them. It’s not D.C. for a change.

ll or 13 liberals in Manhattan and the 4 or 5 left in Topeka should be there. Bring water balloons filled with pickle juice. It seems to be the local favorite.
