I think the media’s ire against Trump is due to the fact that they can’t control him, and he doesn’t kiss their butts.

That's a big, big part of it. And the more they hate him, the more I hate them.

Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake. To quote Napoleon Bonaparte.

Nah. The media controlled GW to the tee and they still hated him. They just hate conservatives, and GW wasn’t even much of a conservative. They hated Reagan just as much as Trump.

Doonesbury is on the bottom of the front page of the Sunday comics in my local rag.

I'd like to thank Garry Trudeau for curing me of my Sunday comics habit.

I don't even look at them any more.

Yes, but it was the complacent, sneering hatred of those who felt that their importance was at least acknowledged, and their good opinion courted.

Their hatred of Trump has a panicked, hysterical quality to it.

They are reporting objectively, they object to everything.

On FOX today with chrissywallace, both Rich Lowry and Guy Benson, two semi-rino-pubbies that are eunuch like in defense of President Trump, both agreed that many lefties hate America, it's founders and it's values.

Both demonRATS, mo the shmo and congressbitchharman went crazy in their denial.

NO, NO, NO they cried, lefties love America, it's founders, and it's values.

gubbernator, cuomo, son of mario the pious, stepped on his crank, with now outlawed, steel cleat-ed golf shoes, and his super gaff is making all the demonRATs find their 'love of America' because we all know that America is GREAT.

You may be right. I just think they have quit trying to hide that hatred. Prior to Trump, the MSM was still trying to pretend they were unbiased. Sometime during the Obama Administration, they quit trying to mask their bias. I think they smelled blood in the water and figured it was “game over” for freedom, for conservatives, and for the GOP. I think they thought it would be smooth sailing after that. Trump’s shocking win caught them not even trying to hide their bias, and now it is too late. They are displaying their full lies and propaganda. I don’t think they hated Reagan any less, they just were still playing their cards close to their chest. Now, the gloves are off for all to see. The bias is on full display, along with the hate for Trump and America.

The MSM has long been biased. I don’t remember them as being anything but hugely biased all my life and I’m in my mid 40s.

According to your age, you are right. However, I recall in the 1950s there were conservative newspapers and magazines. Perhaps the best one, US News and World Report, is now liberal but at one time they stuck to the facts and their editorial slant was conservative.

Similarly, the Dallas Morning News was a bastion of conservatism. I have not lived in Texas for a long time and I understand the Dallas paper is now left wing.

As to the networks, CBS (prior to Cronkite) had Douglas Edwards with the news. He was like Joe Friday (just the facts, ma'm, just the facts). At that time the national newscast was just 15 minutes long so they didn't have much time for drivel. Although one could guess that the Huntley-Brinkley report on NBC was somewhat to the left, they did a fair job with the facts, plus I always appreciated David Brinkley's humor. Likewise, Harry Reasoner at CBS and later ABC was in the mold of Brinkley.

Good article, and good point.

This proves that when you believe in the intelligence of Americans, they both rise to that level AND you earn their trust and support.

The media has treated their public like idiots, expecting them to blindly follow every word they say. Enough Americans see the bias. Therefore, the media hurt themselves as they lower day by day any trust they theoretically had grandfathered in.

Nancy Ancrum, the editorial-page editor of The Miami Herald, told Fox News her paper joined the effort without any hope of changing the minds of Trump supporters because “they are just too far gone.””

Journalism (straight up news, not editorials) needs to match Civics 101. Civics 101 needs to teach students about parties, voting rights, candidates, in a generic, neutral tone. How can a young person learn the facts about the American electoral process, when the newspaper is saying something as ignorant as “Our Party is Good, the voters who don’t vote our way are Poopyheads”?

Journalism itself MUST remain neutral. Or be called on its bias.

I agree that Trump is wrong to call the media the “enemy of the people” and wish he would stick to less inflammatory words. His favorite charge of “fake news” makes his point well enough without any hint that he favors retribution on individual journalists.

Once again, he called FAKE NEWS "the enemy of the people". Anyone who takes offense at that statement is openly admitting that they support using false or manufactured information.

Nazis used “love of one’s country” to trick people into supporting a crazed sadistic tyrant bent on world domination and genocide.

Please, journalists using this comparison, show us where Trump is doing any of the same. We’ll wait.

What Trump has done is call them on their bias. This drives them insane. The more openly they throw a temper tantrum, the more they discredit themselves even with moderates and Independents - yet they just can’t help themselves....Trump knows it and plays them like a fiddle.

We needed someone like him! That kind of openness was in my fantasies of a President. We needed the insidiousness CALLED THE F OUT.

You are right. We get the paper newspaper every day ONLY because Mom has Alzheimers and expects a paper newspaper to read every morning. She doesn’t really get what she is reading. But it’s a part of her life that is important to her. People in her generation will not be around much longer.

I was disappointed Trump met with the NY Times, especially the silver spooner Sulzberger. They’ve been absolutely blackguarding him.
I’m reading Scalia Speaks, a collection of Scalia’s speeches edited by one of his sons (along with a former Scalia clerk). It was interesting to me that in at least one of his speeches, Scalia asserted that “the freedom of speech” (emphasis on the) meant (and therefore, rightfully, means) not absolute freedom of speech but freedom of speech as understood at law at the time of the ratification of the First Amendment.

Hence laws against libel, or fighting words, or pornography - or falsely calling “‘Fire!' in a crowded theater” - are not problematic at all but restrict things which would have been illegal before, and immediately after, the passage of the First Amendment. And, per Scalia, that means that the courts are wrong to give near absolute immunity to abusively hurtful speakers against political figures.

Now a biased newspaper is going to make half the readers mad and half happy. The solution, almost every town had at least two newspapers. They were each biased but on opposite sides of every question and they kept the other “honest”.

I've seen the latest solution in a couple of Metro areas. The last was in Las Vegas, where the "Review-Journal" was right/center and "The Sun" leftist. The readership of "The Sun" dried up until they became just a thin separate insert in the Journal. I sometimes read them instead of the comics, for the same reason.
