Michael Avenatti was in Iowa this weekend. Because he is thinking, actively, about running for president. Of the United States. Which is something we have to take seriously. Because Donald Trump is president.
Or something.
The logic goes like this: Trump was a businessman who had never run for office before but was famous for being on TV. Avenatti, who, in case you haven't watched cable TV in the past few months (shame!) is porn star Stormy Daniels' lawyer, has also never run for political office before and is famous for being on TV.
Avenatti himself is drawing comparisons between himself and Trump, insisting that the only way Democrats can hope to beat this most unconventional of presidents is with his own medicine. "I think there's a huge appetite within the party for a fighter," Avenatti said in Iowa. "I think the party has yearned for a fighter -- a fighter for good, if you will -- for a significant period of time. And for many, I'm probably seen as that individual."
Here's the thing: I know Donald Trump. I have covered Donald Trump. And you, Michael Avenatti, are no Donald Trump....

The creepy porn lawyer? You gotta be kidding me... what a loser.
Avenatti ranks up there with toe jam. Crab crap in the ocean has more credibility than this pond scum.
One could say that Trump’s brand is bigger and better known than the republicans and demonrats combined. He actually is uncle Sam.
Complete utter loser
On what party will he run? Independent?
I think people are tired of sleazy lawyers being President. Missed the boat, Mikey.
Among a million other things, this trope that Trump is famous for being a reality TV star is preposterous. Reminds me of that old blessing... “May your enemies always underestimate you!”
Indeed. He was famous long before reality TV existed.
I wonder how he managed to become so well known, since people are not typically very interested in rich real estate tycoons.
NYC, read Manhattan, with it's track record of the most expensive real estate has long had a love/hate relationship with its real estate moguls. The sheer scale of midtown deals guaranteed press coverage...public relations mgrs helped of course. Couple that with high profile philanthropy. And NYC news in that media capitol becomes national news, morning tv shows, etc. That media coverage stokes some investor interest. Maybe you recall Harry and Leona Helmsley being prominent in the news decades ago, with Leona the Queen Bitch. Successes and failures have been epic, affecting livelihoods of a great many people as well market values. High drama all around.Trump just happens to have been the best.
“”Avenatti is a narcissistic media hound pure and simple. It ends there. “”
Much like Upchuck Schumer.
“NYC, read Manhattan, with it’s track record of the most expensive real estate has long had a love/hate relationship with its real estate moguls.”
Also the time of Rudy Giuliani, Ed Koch, Mets and Yankees both good, and the good Saturday Night Lives when people thought NYC was something.
Yup
