Martha Roby is a RINO and NEVERTRUMPER.
She actually went so far as to find a microphone and condemn him on the Saturday following the Friday release of the infamous “Grab them by the P****” video.
I think on her numerous challengers, a couple were selected by the GOP to run in order to spread out the vote which allows her to win.
I personally know Bobby Bright and strongly urged him to change to the Republican party back in 2009. He thought he could be the most conservative democrat in Congress but his keeping his D meant he helped support Pelosi’s majority.
So we threw him out.
Now that he’s switched to R I will vote for him over Roby.

Hmm, I recall that about Roby now. That explains her challengers.
But Bright ran on a ticket with Hussein Obama and called out Pelosi’s name for Speaker so you’ll forgive me if I don’t trust him, doing that as a conservative points to some epic level cognitive dissonance. And who was he backing in 2016, Trump? When did he switch exactly? Wikipedia says 2010 (what, RIGHT after he lost to Roby?) which makes little sense.
Not a thrilling choice for your district if you ask me.
Martha Roby was so appalled by Trumps grab em by the p... comment that she overreacted and unendorsed him; maybe she held her grudge and didnt vote for Trump in November (its a secret ballot, so we cant know for sure), but if there was one state in which a Republican could do that without helping Hillary win it was Alabama in 2016. And Roby is a conservative with a consistently conservative voting record, and has supported President Trumps initiatives (perhaps not his tariffs, but then again I dont support those either). She has voted, and will continue to vote, the right way in Congress.
Bright was a moderate Democrat congressman who carried water for Pelosis agenda while in the House and only voted with Republicans when given permission to do so by Pelosi. And he was a congressional Democrat not during the 1980s, when plenty of Southern Democrats voted for Reagans agenda and had more conservative voting records than did any Northern Republicans, but during the first two years of the Obama Administration, when congressional Democrats were pushing the most Leftist agenda in Anerican history. I would crawl over broken glass to vote fir Roby over Bright.
No, Bright voted against Pelosi as speaker in 2009.
He got elected in 2008, and lost to Roby in 2010.
She ran as a TEA party favorite, and I saw her in person (as a TEA party supporter), but I had a feeling she was saying then what we all wanted to hear. Once in office, she pretty much rubber-stamped whatever Boehner said to do.
Others might not understand, but here in deep Red Alabama, the deomcrats used to be very conservative. Since then, either they died off, or switched to Republican. Bright SHOULD have done so back in 2009, like many did throughout the South then.
He was an idiot for not doing so, and I told him he lost for that reason. He replied that he “had voted the most conservative of all the democrats in Congress.” I replied that today (this was 2011 or so) the TEA party rebellion is so strong in Alabama, NO democrat could win except in the black counties. They make up 11 of the 67 Alabama counties. You’d be surprised, while Alabama is 25 percent black or so, almost all blacks are concentrated into those counties. Politically they’re very isolated.
Bright used to be the major of Montgomery. He never declared a party, but he was pretty conservative. He even got in a lot of trouble back in 2005 or so, for strongly suggesting store owners and regular citizens get armed to fight back against criminals.
Anyway, I voted for Barry Moore, but will now switch to Bobby Bright. I hope to speak to him soon. He says he is a Trump supporter, and has always been one, and that’s why he FINALLY switched to GOP.
Actually, no democrat voted against Pelosi in 2009, apostates only dare to vote against her when there is a GOP majority.

Oops, than did any Northern Republicans should have read than did many Northern Republicans*.
His supporters don't exactly help their candidate either, a lot of them scream "RINO!!" at anyone who runs for the same office as Lonegan, no matter how conservative that person is (e.g. Bret Schundler was suddenly GOP establishment scum when he dared run for Governor when Lonegan wanted the job) and they push Democrat style identity politics. Like Tammy Duckworth, ANY opposition to Lonegan will be spun as "how DARE you attack a DISABLED man!!" Basically they use "he's legally blind" card the way she uses the "I have no legs" card as a shield against criticism.
I can't even fault him for being vehemently against Trump in the primary and being a die-hard Ted Cruz supporter. Many FReepers, including myself, were in the same bandwagon. However, I doubt any of us would make speeches calling Trump "Hillary Clinton with a penis"
On a related note, the AlwaysTrump freepers frequently accuse the NeverTrump crowd from the primary of being across the board leftists/RINOs/establishment hacks (in reality, a lot of rank and file Republicans across the spectrum didn't buy into Trumpism). I wonder if John Cox and Steve Lonegan are thus "GOP establishment RINOs" in their eyes? Hmmm.
