North Korea's claimed willingness to give up its nuclear ambitions is a "great opportunity" to defuse a major threat in the world, Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Bob Corker told CNBC on Wednesday. But the U.S. needs to be skeptical, he added.
President Donald Trump and members of his administration did a great job of "bringing people together," including Chinese President Xi Jinping, to put pressure on North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, Corker said on "Squawk Box."
The retiring Tennessee Republican, who has had an on-again-off-again relationship with the president, said Trump would deserve the Nobel Peace Prize "if this gets resolved. My gosh, yes."
Trump's predecessor, former President Barack Obama, won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2009 for "his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation," according to the Nobel committee.
Another factor that's helped force Kim's hand after decades of North Korean defiance, according to Corker, was the "sort of left-leaning" South Korean President Moon Jae-in, who wanted to reach out, "instead of a more hawkish leader there."
Friday's historic summit between Kim and Moon and their pledge for "complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula" set the stage for Trump's as-yet unscheduled meeting with Kim....

Corker stood the Constitution on its head to give the Kenyanesian Usurper his Iran “deal”.
He should be tarred and feathered and run out of town on a rail.
C8rker still needs to he tried for Treason based on the Iran deal/legislation process.
President Trump doesn’t need this piece of garbage peace prize to show that he is a great President..we already know he is a GREAT President. Remember, they gave a peace prize to Obama for just being him..that’s how worthless it is

Trump said In answer to a shouted question, “Peace IS the prize.” If a Dem has said anything that deep and quick-witted, it would have been on the news over and over until everyone heard it.

Color me skeptical, but I believe that the Norwegian Nobel Committee would be more inclined to award their Peace Prize to Kim Jong Un, rather than President Trump. Recall that this same group awarded their prize to the backstabbing Barack Obama, who did absolutely nothing, but embark on an international apology tour to confess America’s sins of individual freedoms, military strength and economic greatness, while begging for global forgiveness. While he didn’t inspire peace, he did manage to set the Middle East in fire with his “Arab Spring.”
Also remember that Norway is being overrun by Muslim invaders from North Africa, and liberal Norwegian politicians haven’t a clue how. nor the desire to stop it -— especially in Oslo. In recent years, awarding the Peace Prize was so transparently phony and political that in my opinion, it lost the worldwide respect and place of preeminence that it once enjoyed. Depending on the progress of negotiations and prospects for eventual success, the most appropriate outcome would be for both Trump and Un to share the Peace Prize.
