Defiance is Donald J. Trump's signature attitude; it was the defining characteristic of the 2016 Trump campaign. Trump defied the political establishment, the news media, conventional wisdom, common decency, former President George W. The “norm" that has been destroyed is that conservatives believe that “the news” is both true and important. We now know that “the news" is not always true, and if true it is not infrequently a half-truth.
