Like many Americans, Hillary Clinton initially treated Donald Trump's run for president as a joke.
But the former Democratic candidate remembers the exact moment she began to take Trump seriously.
"It wasn't until I saw him dominate a debate with a crowded field of talented Republican candidates not with brilliant ideas or powerful arguments but with ugly attacks that drew gasps that I realized he might be for real," Clinton wrote in her newly released campaign memoir "What Happened."
It was at the first Republican debate, in August 2015 in Cleveland, that Trump sought to back up the provocative, racially-charged rhetoric on which he launched his candidacy, and where he introduced himself to a national audience that largely viewed his campaign as a sideshow.
On stage with nine other leading GOP candidates, Trump blasted political correctness, famously squabbled with moderator Megyn Kelly, and refused to rule out an independent campaign should he not win the Republican nomination. Many of his comments drew a mixture of raucous applause and loud jeers from the audience.
Two months earlier, Trump announced his bid for the presidency at Trump Tower in New York in a speech that cast Mexican immigrants as rapists and drug dealers....

The signs were everywhere.
Those debates were awesome. Trump was so thin on policy and mostly winged it. But then would crush it in all the online polls and then brag about them on twitter while driving the RINO wonks crazy. It was so beautiful.
Ha! I met him at Le Cirque around the same time. Was a pretty genuine guy and very cordial.
“1:00AM on election night.”
Best day EVER! I was so happy I almost couldn’t move. In shock.
“if Trump says hes coming down for 20-minute speech...hell still get 30,000 today.”
And that would be with only one day’s notice.
Trump once again was the only adult in the room. He was in no mood to joke around, as it was no laughing matter.
Since then, he’s avoided the usual press gatherings, Kennedy Center tributes etc., because he realizes they are stage to disrespect him and his wife.
Amazing the articles that continue to trash him and the first lady during their trips to Texas, and since. Pure unadulterated hate from these people who bring us the news.
“What makes this particularly funny is that Clintons campaign leadership had previously laid out a strategy to undermine the GOP by pushing Pied Piper candidates like Trump, Carson and Cruz who they thought didnt have a chance in hell of winning. LMAO.”

OMG. What happened, Hillary? It’s that you just can’t shut up.
People were sick and tired of the establishment and President Trump was a breath of fresh air. That is why I and millions of others voted for him.
“Was it the day that Trump filled a stadium with 30,000 people and she couldnt get 30 at a nursing home??”

LOL! You got it. She was so confident she didn’t even visit states like Wisconsin, IIRC. In the run-up to the election, I visited my dying father in a nursing home in WI. Bernie signs everywhere, not one Hillary sign, and when I chatted with people, they couldn’t stand Hillary.
Heh....good one.
