Excellent point! The career politicians talk a good game BEFORE the election, after that they go back to servicing their real masters, the ultra rich donor class. Problem is interest of the donor class is opposite of what is good for the majority of people in the hard working class.
Yeah, where was Danforth when the community organizer Obama was doing opposite of what the GOP stands for in theory? Trump is doing what the GOP SAYS it stands for.
He has a point.
GOP Inc doesn’t stand for anything substantive. It stands for getting elected and creating the illusion of progress. It’s weak in the face of their political adversaries. And they’d like it to continue.
Thank the Good Lord, he doesn’t!
The GOPe stands for the DC UniParty and the looting of the nation for their selves!
Does Johnny think Mitch and Paulie for?
Yeah - Trump represents Freedom for the People via the Constitution - miles and miles away from what “Republicans” stand for.
Where’d you keep yours?
I kept a 20’ Critchfield at College Pt and at the World’s Fair.(70s to early 90s) For blackfish I fished the Western Sound and a couple of wrecks and rockpiles off Jersey. I only made those runs though when the bonito were running or fall striper run. It was nice to top off the day with toothy guys.
After I retired, before I moved to WV in 02, I’d go anywhere from Cape May to Pt. Judith to take party boats for Blackfish with a buddy....observing the season & limits. He had the commercial license and we had a pen to keep them while we watched the greensheet for good prices. He’d sell ‘em to Korean restaurants.
The numbers of togs were driven down by the fishtraps, roller gear (which would also level out old wrecks and rock piles and the tons of “short” stripers that would devour young blackfish.
Now I fish only bass and muskey...catch and release only.
I will say that togs were my favorite groundfish without a doubt. You had to be able to hit them JUST before the ‘thump’. LOL
I have a 20 ft (19’6”)Wellcraft runabout with 200 Evenrude. Both from early to mid 80s. I trailer. Mostly out of Stony Brook harbor. We fish from Northport to Rocky Point. My boys do most of the work now. Blackfish at Cranes Neck or Middleground. Fluke off of the pinkhouse in Port Jeff. Stripers and Bluefish everywhere. Porgies if you want them. And Too many sea robins. Not a great year for anything.
Some time false albacore or Bonita come in. Hard to get them to bite. Wild ride when they do.
Used to use a lure called a “Gotcha” in blue/white for bones and albies. Let it sink a few feet then reel fast as hell with intermittent jerks.

My Critchfield was a cruiser with 2 pedastal seats and wide open cockpit and high gunnels. Profile was similar to the Wellcraft cabin cruisers of like size and vintage...mid-late 60s. Had a 125 Johnson on it...biggest OMC made back then was 135 LOL...how times have changed.
Fished togs at Kings Pt., Matinicock and Center Island reefs, Execution Rocks and anywhere from City Island to well past Rye on the North side.
Now I’ve got myself a 16’ (so it’ll fit in the garage with the truck) bass boat. Had a 75 2 stroke on it that was getting cranky so I got a 60 4 stroke merc. Though rated for 90, difference in weight with a 4 stroke made me go lower. Besides, there is no open water here, all twisty impoundments, so I can rarely go WOT for more than a few seconds.
Biggest difference is that good seamanship is an unknown commodity. Maybe I notice it more because everything is at much closer quarters. Maybe it’s because I’m just becoming an old fart, but these folks are just batshit crazy on the water. Thank God I only catch the weekday folks.....I wouldn’t dream of going out on the weekends.
Depending on the size of natural bait will determine what size/kind of lue to use for albacore. Mostly find them gulping sand eels. I often go with small deadly dicks. Though I’ve hooked them on floater rebels/rapalas, and once trying to find fish on a slow day with an umbrella rig I had a number of them take off for parts unknown, stripping all the line off a jig master before I thought to turn the boat around and chase the rig. They snapped 40 lb test. Wasn’t expecting that kind of run in the first place. Thought at first they were small/medium blues. Went back and found the pod and hooked up again with a spinner and a 4” rebel. Quite a fight.
We used to call them Bonita. But in the Fisherman they called them false albacore. Whatever.....they give quite a fight and are tasty.
Will check out the ‘Gotcha’. Thanks
Danforth, I believe you are correct.
Most of the gopE are part of the swamp.
Sad.
5.56mm
Yeah, bones, false albies and skipjacks all have very subtle different markings. I couldn’t tell the difference today. Remembered another lure I used to score em with, “Deadly Dick”.

I used to go light for them, cast with 12# on a 7’ rod a buddy made for me with a 6500C3. Screamin’ drags...LOL
Getting near that time of year when they should be running again.
Tight lines
Trump does not represent “Bushism” which is a lot, not all, of what we have had since Reagan.
