CNN's Begala: We should be debating 'whether we should blow up' Russian Intel agencies

CNN political analyst Paul Begala suggested on Thursday night the Trump administration should be arguing "how many sanctions we should place on Russia or whether we should blow up the KGB, GSU or GRU" by "retaliating massively."

“We were and are under attack by a hostile foreign power,” Begala, a former adviser to President Bill Clinton, told Anderson Cooper. “We should be debating how many sanctions we should place on Russia or whether we should blow up the KGB, GSU, or GRU.

The KGB, GSU and GRU are former and current Russian intelligence agencies.

“If I were a Trump supporter, I would want to retaliate massively because it has tainted his victory," Begala added. The commentary comes as headlines were dominated this week by Donald Trump Jr.'s meeting with a Russian lawyer who promised damaging information on Hillary Clinton in a June 2016 meeting.

The commentary comes as headlines were dominated this week by Donald Trump Jr.'s meeting with a Russian lawyer who promised damaging information on Hillary Clinton in a June 2016 meeting.

It was also revealed via an exclusive NBC News report on Friday that a former Soviet counter-intelligence officer was at the June 2016 meeting with the president's eldest son.

NBC reports some U.S. officials suspect the former intelligence officer, who was identified as a Russian-American lobbyist, still has ties to Russian intelligence.

NBC did not identify him by name, but the network says he denies having any current ties to the Kremlin.

Trump Jr.'s lawyer told The Hill that the lobbyist mentioned in the NBC report was introduced as a friend of lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya and Emin Agalarov, the Russian pop star whose agent, Rob Goldstone, arranged the meeting.

“He’s a U.S. citizen and not working for the Russian government and my client was introduced to him literally at the meeting,” said Trump Jr. attorney Alan Futerfas of the individual identified by NBC.

Begala has been with CNN since 2002 and once co-hosted "Crossfire" with current Fox News host Tucker Carlson.

When he says “we” should be debating does he think he should sit in on it?

Anytime a liberal suggests that “we” should commit an act of violence against anyone, he always means other people than himself.
