Former Sen. Bob Dole on Saturday praised President Donald Trump's European trip, calling his speech in Poland "one for the ages" and saying that the nation "should be proud of the strong American leadership being restored by President Trump."

"I want to congratulate President Trump and all Americans on the president's successful trip to Europe this week," Dole, 93, the five-term Kansas senator and former Republican presidential and vice presidential nominee, said in a statement released by the White House via Twitter.....

Had dinner with him at the Midwest Republican Leadership conference in Des Moines back in 1987 when I was with the Haig campaign. A Ripon Republican but a true patriot.

Had my issues with Dole in the past, but this is about the most clearheaded statement I’ve seen from anyone for or against Trump from within the party. Kudos to Mr Dole.

In particular, it’s abundantly clear the Dole recognizes that Obama shrunk from American leadership and Trump is quickly restoring it.
