Students and residents in Charlottesville, Virginia, protested Republican Rep. Tom Garrett’s first town hall Friday with a massive sign stating “no dialogue with white supremacy” and chants including “say it loud, say it clear: immigrants are welcome here.”
Garrett met with protests both inside and outside of the building at the University of Virginia where he hosted the town hall, reports NBC 29. Both Showing Up for Racial Justice and UVA Students United organized the protests.

“[W]e refuse to give him a platform to spout his politics of racial terror and white supremacy,” the Charlottesville chapter of Showing Up for Racial Justice said in a Facebook post. “Engaging in polite conversation with Garrett normalizes his extreme views and allows them to spread. Instead, we need to disrupt this language and these policies in order to make space to create a world in which we can all be liberated from the damning violence of white supremacy that has built and structured this nation since its inception through settler colonialism and racial chattel slavery.”
The group accused Rep. Garrett of running for Congress on a racist, anti-immigrant, anti-LGBT, and “anti-social” platform.
Garrett’s protesters had several chants, including “Tom Garrett, go away; no racist USA,” “If we don’t get it, shut it down,” and “no ban, no registry; f*** white supremacy.”
Some supporters of President Trump were also present. They displayed Trump and Pence signs and shouted “Trump, Trump, Trump,” repeatedly, while one man shouted “illegal immigrants have to go” into a mic.
Rep. Garrett discussed a number of subjects, including Obamacare, Russia’s role in the 2016 election, gun rights, and the Atlantic Coast Pipeline.
“[Obamacare] was sold to us on a promise that our premiums would drop by $2,500 dollars a year and it didn’t,” Garrett said. “That if we liked our doctor we could keep them, we couldn’t. That if we liked our plan, we could keep it. We couldn’t.”
“I absolutely, positively believe that there was an effort by the Russians to influence the elections,” he added. “… If someone can show me evidence that a single vote was changed, then I would say that’s tantamount to an act of war, but I haven’t seen it from anywhere.”
He expressed support for gun rights, and said he generally endorsed pipelines, but did not like how the Atlantic Coast Pipeline was proceeding.
The protesters are so racist.
Stop with the little pussified chants and let’s dance.

I live in farm country. Next to one of the biggest bodies of fresh water on the planet. I Don’t hunt, but I can learn how fairly quickly and I have all the tools of the trade. I’m not worried. Dems live in cities and depend on municipal and commercial infrastructure far more than Conservatives do. If they really bring that down they’re gonna suffer more than us, and far quicker.

Battle is highly unlikely. Individual engagements are eminently possible.
It is important that our side keep the high moral ground. Better to take a few casualties at first and win the war of public opinion, than be captured in a video that can be edited to look like an attack on peaceful protesters.

ONLY in Bizarro Land will a group show up at a speech, claiming that by screaming in protest to one, disrupting others from attending all under the guise of ‘Free Speech’, yet ignoring the fact that in reality THEY are denying ‘MY’ right to Free Speech.
And, as in much of this blatant show of hypocrisy, when this is pointed out to ‘younger people’ once the blank look starts to disappear as you explain your point - step by step - will a glimmer of ‘oh yeah, I understand’ hit them.
Big problem is, that these same people (for the most part) have to have each individual event explained to them.
One of the more ‘fun’ ones to shatter their world is when Govt X wants money for ID cards so people will be logged into say homeless shelters and soup kitchens to keep ‘outsiders’ out, -(for bonus points - ask if they are being so giving, why isn’t EVERYONE invited for the ‘free meals’) - JUST hit them up and ask why WE can’t give ID cards so people can vote...

Note that the article provides no estimates of the overall crowd size, or the number of protesters. The pic of protesters above the article is from an event in DC. Based on that, I have to suspect the protester count at the Garrett event was so low they are embarrassed, but not enough to stop them from trying to create the impression of significant opposition.
So Garrett thinks if Russian efforts such as blog trolling influenced the election by a single vote, it was an act of war, but by implication, if they made the exact same effort without success, it wasn’t an act of war. Hmm... So if one fool was influenced by Russkii bloggers to vote for Trump, and 25 million fools were influenced to vote for Hillary via fake news and bias in the main stream media, then we should have nuclear war with Russia? The man sounds like a dimwit. Has he been sharing meds with John McCain?
