The chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee is rejecting President Trumps keystone proposal for border security, saying a wall is not the right way to proceed.
During a Wednesday telephone town hall with constituents, Sen. Cory Gardner (R-Col.) said building a wall is neither the most cost-effective nor the most secure way of closing the southern border.
"As far as the wall goes, I believe we have to have border security, but I do think billions of dollars on a wall is not the right way to proceed," Gardner said.
"I don't support a tariff to pay for any kind of wall, he added.
Politico first reported the town hall audio.
Gardner previously expressed doubt about the wall in late February.
I don't think the wall is the best idea," Gardner said at the time
The new audio suggests his opinion towards the wall have solidified, no matter what somebody said on the campaign trail.
"We do need security on the border, that may mean personnel. It may mean a fence. That may mean an electronic fence," Gardner said. "But we shouldn't just build a wall and add billions of dollars because that's what somebody said should be done."
Trump repeatedly promised to build a border wall during his successful White House bid, claiming Mexico will cover the costs, which are expected to easily top $1 billion.
Gardner's office did not respond immediately to The Hill's request for comment Thursday.
Asked Thursday if he thought Trump could deliver on getting Mexico to foot the bill for the massive project, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) responded, Uh, no.
The Cheap Labor Express has the best Republican Senators money can buy.
Patriots will march on the WHITE HOUSE and stay there until the wall is built.
Notice he’s trying to tie the tariff to the wall instead of to American jobs.
Notice he’s trying to tie the tariff to the wall instead of to American jobs.
And if the wall is not built and the next Obama-clone gets into office and orders ICE to stand back down, then what?
My, the swamp is deep.
Trump may have to engage certain Republican senator’s constituents to help explain it to the deaf and dumb senator.
Senator Gardener’s constituency is mucho illegal.
I guess, like McConnell, the NRSC doesn’t realize who is in charge either. IT IS NOT THE NRSC!
The hell with marching on the White House, patriots should be occupying the Capitol in flash mob style.
...and they say the Democrat Party is in trouble.
It would be nice if someone very kindly, went to the trouble to post a link in one of the first replies to these fools emails. I bet they would get 1000s of communications that would leave them in no doubt hoe stupid we think they are. I know I can get the email myself but many just complain and do nothing.
The people are so lost it is beyond words.
They likely are part of _kingdoms_ (organizations) in their private lives, which are in our day, headed by high level demonic entities; princes (principalities). They have been assimilated. They war against the ways and peoples of YHVH continues, full force.
Sure glad I never gave $$$ to RinoNC. Despise them.
This Senate is full of snakes.
Somebody tell these asshos that we want them to do as our ELECTED President promised.
The Senate and House opinions are not needed.
illegals cost htis country between $400 BILLION DOLLARS and $600 BILLION DOLLARS every single year-
spend $25 BILLION on the wall, spend a small fee every year to maintain the wall- Deport illegals already here- and you will end up saving hundreds of billions of dollars every single year-
OF COURSE the wall is the right solution!
President Trump has shown us all who the Dems were who infiltrated the GOP, RNC.
He seems to not understand that the wall was probably the biggest reason why people voted for this President.
exactly. Everything form health care to the wall has to be done so when the Dems ever take the White house they cannot reverse anything President Trump has done.
