President Trumps decision to shake up his National Security Council by removing a prominent military leader in favor of political adviser Steve Bannon is worrisome and a radical departure, Sen. John McCain said Sunday.
Trump signed executive action Saturday adding Bannon, who headed the alt-right Breitbart web site before joining the campaign, to his core security council while removing the Director of National Intelligence and chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staffs.
The appointment of Mr. Bannon is something which is a radical departure from any National Security Council in history, McCain (R-Ariz.) told CBSs Face the Nation.
The role of the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff has been diminished, I understand, with this reorganization. One person who is indispensable would be the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, in my view. So its of concern.
McCain also took issue with Trumps travel ban on travelers from seven Muslim countries as a confusing process. Listing Iraq on the travel ban could stoke anti-American sentiment when Iraqis have been working with the US to root out ISIS....

This is probably fake news. It would make no sense to put a nobody on the NSC while taking off two people who need to be there.

This CANNOT possibly be true.
8 days and the left and RINO’S are in total melt down.
Love it.
Votes matter.
Has Trump even picked a DNI Director yet?
If not then with this move this could mean the DNI monstrosity will be done away with.
Yeah but he could never imagine anyone actually enforcing it.
It was Kabuki Theater then.
It is Reality TV now.
I find McCain’s obsessive desire to go to war with Russia more than concerning.

Amazing!
Bannon was a Naval officer of higher rank, with higher security clearances than McCain.
And he never once divulged operational military information to an enemy of the United States.
“...while removing the Director of National Intelligence and chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staffs.”
Did they roll over for Obama? Removal is probably a clue that they may need to update their resumes.
Poor Johnnie...left out in the cold...Boo Hoo...
I say let Bannon look at the info. These swamp creatures aphaving access scares me. Anything can be sold in DC.
Does McCain know that Bannon was a former Naval officer?
Just why hasn’t mclame’s family had him committed? This guy wore out his “I’m a Vet” card many, many years ago.
“Hes an “easy sale” in those areas.”
Exactly right. Without themes of intractable conflict the mainstream rags can’t sell ads for their gossipy wee wee pads and bird cage liners.
Having you as chairman of the Armed Service
committee is concerning.
Every damned time I see McCain, or hear his name, I seethe in the thought that this was the traitor responsible for leaving my MIA Brothers to rot and die as on the battle field of South East Asia...
Your remark/question has been asked a thousand times over on FR for the past decade and more.
The short answer is: democrat crossovers in primaries.
McCain dumped wife, moved to AZ, married younger woman with inheritance, took Goldwater’s seat, so he is GOP but not by belief.
McCain is Uniparty.
McCain uses democrat crossovers and financial war chest to eliminate primary opponents.
AZ is red state; voters will not elect democrat for US Senate. So when McCain wins AZ GOP senate primary, AZ voters have nowhere else to go.
It’s a machine. Power players get taken care of and McCain keeps getting reelected.
Good news is he is 80 years old and won’t be around for much longer.
It is possible that President Trump can get him to play ball for our side.
If this islamist loving stooge McCain is concerned, then add Bannon by all means.

“McCain says Trump adding Bannon to Security Council is concerning”
My theory is if John McCain had what it takes to win the Presidency back in 2008 it could have appointed whom he wanted on his Security Council. He didn’t and now he can’t, so he should STFU.
