Lawmakers are loath to say anything remotely critical, fearful they might set off the president-elect or his horde of enforcers.
"People are naturally reticent to be the first out of the block for fear of Sean Hannity, for fear of Breitbart, for fear of local folks," Rep. Mark Sanford said.
In early December, Rep. Bill Flores made what seemed like an obvious observation to a roomful of conservatives at a conference in Washington. Some of Donald Trumps proposals, the Texas Republican cautioned, are not going to line up very well with our conservative policies," though he quickly added that there was plenty the incoming president and GOP Congress could accomplish together.
Little did Flores realize the hell that would soon rain down from Trump's throng of enforcers.

‘Some of Donald Trumps proposals, the Texas Republican cautioned, “are not going to line up very well with our conservative policies,” ‘...
I wonder of which ‘conservative policies’ doth he speak?
Since those continuing resolutions froze and maintained spending, didn't the stimulus spending also continue as part of that same CR? If yes, then that must be a great part of the doubled debt under obama. But what exactly did we get for 8 years of stimulus?
I think Donald Trump understands this-or at least I hope so-and intends to buy time until the reckoning so that the market can be reassured, the economy can grow, technology has a chance to really reinvigorate the economy and thus finesse the ultimate reckoning. He wants to grow our way out of this mess and he needs time to do that and he needs the confidence of the markets to give him that time.
In doing so, however, he runs several risks not the least of which is that he is not going to do much of anything to reduce the debt, quite the contrary, he intends to rebuild infrastructure to the tune of $1 trillion, add new entitlement, cut taxes, repair the Veterans Administration, and revitalize the military. It is not clear whether repealing and replacing Obama care will further increase deficits. He shows no disposition whatsoever to cut any entitlement, recognizing that is political poison, but ever-increasing deficits generated by entitlements on automatic pilot do run high risks if we do have a reckoning that it will be truly ugly.
Very good points in your post.
I always enjoy your posts. Thanks for the thoroughness you employ.
“(Trump won the Electoral College handily but lost the popular vote by 2 percentage points.)”
How is this relevant ? The article is about GOP congressmen being afraid to break ranks with Trump and being attacked by Trump supporters. The only vote percentage that should be relevant is how GOP voters voted — ie, 90%+ for Trump. So breaking ranks with Trump is breaking ranks with their own constituents !
Yup. Furthermore, a monthly drug test for every legislator.
Another very good posting by you!
I believe some of the RINOs in the House and Senate are about to have an awakening.
He shows no disposition whatsoever to cut any entitlement,...

I think he needs to order probes designed to remove all of the able-bodied slackards and frauds from Medicaid.
There must be something in the water in SC. When I think of Mark Sanford, I think of male slut. Maybe he should go back down to South America to see his “soulmate” and stay there.
One could make the case that infrastructure needed $ One Trillion and it was authorized 8 years ago but 0bama and the Rats EMBEZZELED the money and the infrastructure still needs $ One Trillion in maintenance. Avoid the broken window argument in this case unless you want to make the claim that it was broken by 0bama and the Rats.
nathanbedford I am not sure of all details at this time, however the infrastructure spending is supposed to be a joint venture between private sector and government. I believe private sector companies that “adopt” in a sence a freeway or overpass ect. will recieve tax credits for doing so, possibly also a chance for NEW companies to earn a chance to EARN and possibly receive government contracts breaking the stronghold many contractors have on government contracts!!!
As many of us here know, all of the “majority” votes came from 10counties: Los Angeles, Manhattan, Brooklyn, Bronx, Queens, Cook, Marin, San Mateo, San Francisco. Factoring out these rat nests, Trump wins majority by 1.5-2mm votes. To summarize, ridiculously obvious, fraudulent ballot stuffing majorities run up in sanctuary city Chicago, LA and SF are responsible for this perceived “popular majority”
I may have misheard but I thought it was for ten years. And it does involve private funding participation.
“early days of the bamster’s first term”
I misread your reference as hamster’s & it struck me as the most apt characterization in a month of Sundays.
Good. It’s about time the politicians were more afraid of their base than the NYT / WaPo.
The reason he may not line up with their "conservative policies" is because his policies are much more conservative....
Take the money for infrastructure projects out of the welfare budgets, thus having the positive effects of more welfare people having to work, and fewer welfare women spawning future welfare recipients
Oh, he was out “hiking the Appalachian Trail”.
Trump has not “proposed” anything- he is not president yet.
If they are all giggly over another $1trillion in spending, wait until he says he is CUTTING $2Trillion elsewhere to pay for it
Guys like Levin and Beck come to mind.
Trump is a patriotic pragmatist. Folks who live in theoretical rigid ideological fantasy-land will be run down by the Trump Train.
