By Election Day, ambitious Democrats had already resigned themselves to an eight-year wait for their chance in the national spotlight. Hillary Clinton was an overwhelming favorite against Donald Trump and, assuming she won, running a primary challenge against her in four years would be a fools errand.
Then Clinton lost.
Although this most stunning upset in modern presidential history has produced (and will produce) a thousand aftershocks, one of the most unlikely and important is that the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020 is now open.
That opening is made all the more remarkable by the fact that there is simply no logical heir (or even heirs) to President Obama or Clinton no obvious candidate waiting in the wings to step forward and rebuild the party. Vice President Biden appears to have decided that he is done running for office. As a two-time loser, Clinton is done, too. And after that, the bench is, well, pretty thin.
Politics, of course, abhors a vacuum. So candidates will run. Here is a look at who they might be:
Sen. Cory Booker: Booker has been a national figure since the mid-2000s, when he was elected mayor of Newark. His résumé football at Stanford University, a Rhodes scholarship is impressive, and many Democrats see the young (hes 47), charismatic, African American U.S. senator from New Jersey as the second coming of Obama. But the campaign that Booker ran for the Senate in 2013 was more competitive than it should have been largely because of his shaky performance. He may start the 2020 race as the front-runner, but he still has lots of questions that need answering....

Waiting for yours.
I can see Booker, or maybe the Mayor (maybe ex-mayor) of Houston as the big runners up. Democrats need to run diversity candidates and play identity politics to the max.
Will Raul Castro be too old to run?
What about Hillary? It’s still her turn!
Chelsea Clinton, Martin O’Malley, I don’t think Michelle Obama would ever run though.
Yes HilLIARy! She’s a D and in the D party the D(eceased) vote. So why not HilLIARy? I hate to say the obvious but she looks like she already fits right into that profile — and of course it’s always “her turn”
Jimmy Carter, Walter Mondale, Michael Dukakis, Al Gore, and John Kerry are all available.
The Dems have no bench to speak of for the presidential race. Cory Booker doesn’t scare anyone as a frontrunner, and how much longer will Hispanics accept watching another black or white candidate get the presidential nomination when they are becoming the major force in the Democrat Party? Ah, the race card is about to smack the Democrats upside their heads in 2020.
Keith Ellison, I really want them top identify themselves as the party of Allah (Satan)
Where’s Sfaccim Jr.
...Booker also, like Odungo, has imaginary “friends”....he has a resume that includes ambulance chasing,(making sure the press covered
him “at the scene”)....he went to DC full of piss
and vinegar and was quickly reeled in by the corrupt rat leadership...back on the plantation
Cory,you haven’t been “schooled” yet
Elisabeth Warren will run.
three or four years from now!!!
Hillary will more than likely not be able to walk or talk with out coughing and having seizures...She has a major health issue...
SHE IS POLITICALLY FINISHED, AFTER HER ACTIONS THIS WEEK END, TRUMP WILL HAVE A SPECIAL PROSECUTOR ON HER BY FEBRUARY.
Courtney Love
Joe Momma?
I don’t see Booker nor do I see Harris getting the nod. Harris has too much dirt in her background when she was in SF.
Qualifications:
Must be a baby-murderer, a traitor, a globalist, and a collectivist. And, ideally, a Catholic, because then the bishops will be fully on board.
they really wanted that first female president. Hillary prepared for this her entire life and would have been president for 8 years (after replacing Scalia, cleaning up on illegals and syrian refugees and imposing single payer socialized medicine, we would have been permanently blue)
I don’t see how they can be comfortable giving it up to another dude or the first woman that shows up.
All the time Trump was saying all those nicey-nice things, he KNEW she would give him ample—overwhelming—reason to take it all back.
