Droves of people turn out to watch Republican nominee hand out water bottles and diapers as locals commend his efforts: This is his stomping grounds
The post-disaster politicking got under way in earnest on Friday, as Donald Trump appeared in flood-stricken Louisiana to give his image a presidential burnish, and as the White House announced Barack Obama would tour the area next Tuesday.
A day earlier Louisianas governor, John Bel Edwards, had warned Trump not to show up in Louisiana for a photo op. Instead, he said, Trump should volunteer and make donations.
Edwards also defended the delayed visit by Obama, who has come under heavy criticism locally for not interrupting his vacation to come tour the disaster area.
The photo opportunity is a time-honored political maneuver after a natural disaster, and Trump put his own spin on it, traveling with an 18-wheel transfer truck full of supplies to hand out to crowds.
Wherever he went, he created his own television-ready crowds. In St Amant, one of the hardest-hit areas between Baton Rouge and New Orleans, Trumps convoy set up in a parking lot, and droves of people turned out to watch him hand out water bottles and diapers.
It was really something, said national guardsman Chris Ealy, who shook Trumps hand. The 25-year-old seemed dazzled by his encounter with national political machinery. I could tell they were in a hurry.
Trump stayed about 15 minutes before the motorcade of black SUVs and motorcycles moved on. Within a few minutes the crowd had melted away....

“Trump Im doing what I can to help. Were providing water and diapers to people whose homes were ravaged by water. Ive got such a big heart I will even ship of box of diapers to my opponent.
You posted that in quotes——so whan did he say that?
.
LOL!
Trump rammed that tractor trailer up Edwards black bayou.
“Ive got such a big heart I will even ship of box of diapers to my opponent.
Bwaahaahaa!
But “Ah got it on good authoritay from the du cesspool that that thearh Trump showed up with a piddly small truck and handed out Playdough!”
Note to self: Shower, decontaminate, deprogram!
He contributed an 18 wheeler full of stuff
Witch is MIA! To tired to even show up or donate money.
BTW should I remind every one DON’T use the RC we know how crooked they are. Use Salvation Army or Samaritan’s Purse. Don’t be fooled by their call for blood either. This is not that kind of disaster.
Good for him. I’m glad he did that. I’m sure the folks in Louisiana really need our help right now.
Bkmk
The media bashing has already started.
Trump criticized for not doing enough...

Note the one Twitter comment quoted just below the picture:
Tommy Christopher of Mediaite sarcastically put helping out in quotes, saying that Trump assisted people by unloading a truckload of toys for 49 seconds.
Truckload of toys???
I saw toys, yes...how many kids just lost every toy they ever had?
But I also saw infant diapers, baby food (that’s what’s in the top box in the picture, you can see the Gerber logo), bundles of socks, toddler diapers, rolls of shop towels, and another article I read listed food items, cleaning supplies and blankets.
It was NOT a truckload of toys.
And what has Obama sent? What has Hillary sent? Her foundation is supposedly involved in charity, helping people, how much are they helping? I’d like to ask Mr Tommy Christopher what was in the truck load of supplies HE sent?
I heard also that Trump had made a donation to a relief fund, but which one and how much was not discussed.
Oh yeah, one of the Fox people commented this morning about TWO trucks? I think that’s what I heard. As far as I know it was only one. Yeah I know..only one...nobody I hear bashing him has sent a box of kleenex...
