McCain gets testy with Cruz over defense bill that would make women register for draft

Ted Cruz’s first Senate speech since he dropped his presidential bid led to a testy exchange with an old nemesis, the GOP’s 2008 nominee, Arizona Sen. John McCain.

McCain called Cruz a “wacko bird” early in the Texan’s tenure. He recently swatted away as ridiculous the idea that he might welcome Cruz’s support in his own re-election campaign.

And on Tuesday, McCain accused Cruz of looking for a pretext to distance himself from a bipartisan defense bill that McCain has worked on for months and of which he was proud, and said he’d be much more open to Cruz’s ideas “if he would consider voting for the defense of this nation.”

The Armed Services Committee, which McCain chairs, outraged Cruz and other conservatives by including in the annual defense bill a provision that would require women to register for a potential draft. Cruz was one of three senators on the committee to vote against the bill last month....

If I keep getting told the lie that women can serve in all combat roles including the Special Forces, it ruins the argument that only men can register for the draft. Feminist want it both ways. They want equal opportunity; therefore women should have the equal opportunity to be drafted.

As aside, it would be a disaster to do this. From my experience with enlisted women in the Navy, at least half of them did not finish their tour on the aircraft carrier due to pregnancy. I am sure the same will happen if they are draft for a real war.

Ted Cruz is no longer in the race. Get over it.

Someone needs to tell Ted that. A couple of days ago, he was out trashing Trump. Now why would he do that? Will there be shenanigans at the convention? No. Does Cruz and his surrogates like Levin, Shapiro, Kristol, and Beck want Trump to lose? Yes. Makes you wonder which side he is on and how deep his principles run.

A lot of us have daughters and granddaughters who haven’t been raised to be feminazis, and don’t deserve to be lumped in with them.

Cruz is in it for himself first and foremost.

It will be interesting to see if Cruz supports Rand Paul's stand alone legislation to end the selective service program altogether.

It was too late to change the ballots, IIRC.
