Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders said he understands the anger against Donald Trump that fueled violence at a Thursday rally but denounced the protesters that harassed and assaulted Trump supporters.
"I understand how reprehensible and disgraceful Donald Trumps positions are, how ignorant they are, how much he is appealing and I can understand the anger, I surely can," Sanders said at a press conference in Berkeley, Calif., Friday. "The bigotry that is coming from his mouth, the insults to the Mexican community, the Latino community and the Muslim community, and women, and African-Americans, and veterans. I understand the anger.
"But we are not going to defeat Trump, you know, by throwing eggs or getting involved in violence of any kind. We defeat Trump when we stand together as one people and fight for a progressive agenda."
Anti-Trump protests at a Thursday rally in San Jose turned violent as his supporters left the event, with protesters harassing, following and assualting attendees.
When asked Friday about Trump protesters who supported him, Sanders said he didn't want supporters who would turn to violence.
Exacty what happened in Athens Greece:
...and the Greek police don't make $300K a year like in San Jose.
I’ve got news for Bernie. This acting out has zip to do with Trump. It’s the escalating war that Californians have been fighting with illegal invaders for a generation. And it’s not just Mexicans raising hell. Flags observed in San Diego included Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Argentina, Panama, Mexico, and, of course, the black and red anarchy flag not to be confused with the black and red Albania flag which was also present. Sanctuary cities have turned into incubators for militant mob mentality, encouraged by a foreign government (or three) and given succor by elected officials who are more loyal to so-called underprivileged groups than to America. The only thing Trump did is bring the reality of what we live with on a daily basis to national tv.
