I do city and state contracts mostly, but some Alderman over the years I’ve had to grease up. They really can’t hassle me too much, but it’s always good to know the right ones.

Ed Burke, Rostenkowski and Vrdolyak were notorious for having you ticketed while you were doing work. The newer alderman don’t have that much pull with the police. Not like they used to.

Daley Jr. also took a lot of control from the wards when it comes to building inspectors and the like, the alderman really lost a lot of the power they once had to shake a contractor like me down.

But, I’m not a developer, but I know there is plenty of greasing that needs to go on the get zoning permits the developers want, or to get them to sign off on achetectual improvements, etc, I am not involved in any of that, but it’s where a lot of donations go.

You don’t actually pay off alderman anymore (you donate your 2,500 but), you give to their churches, or their “special causes”. United Way is a big filter of that sort of stuff, and in Chicago, churches. Ever wonder why there is a storefront church in black precincts every block? They all have to be greased if you are a developer.

In the suburbs here, it’s Mega Churches (and again United Way). You can give unlimited to Mega Churches, and the politician can then get recognition from the church and basically and endorsement from the mega-church. Not outright an endorsement, but he’ll be brought in to speak to the congregation a lot, he has a captive audience, where his opponent won’t. Once he get friendly with the church (Duckworth and Kirk are great at this), they have that whole vote locked up hard. Remember, all a politician does with his money is buy votes, so if he can get around disclosing his finances, and you give to the church or charity, you just cut him out of the paper trail, and he gets the same result.

The other big kicker is United Way. You give to them, they know who your giving to on whose behalf etc, and the politicians wives and kids get great jobs there. Do nothing jobs that pay an easy 6 figures. Plenty of other “charities” as well. That’s just the most common we have to deal with.

I also have to be a member of the Elks, Moose, Optimists, about 4 Chambers of Commerce we give to, the list is never ending and it grows every year. Those guys don’t shake you down, but it’s still important to be a donor to them.

Cruz disenfranchising voters with backroom shenanigans isn’t a winning strategy in 2016 or 2020. He is killing his career.

Yep..you got it all;. didn't miss a step there! :-)

Like you, I know all about this ( heck, almost EVERYONE over the age of 15 does, in Chicago )and NOTHING ever changes, except I'm surprised re the Aldermen. I hadn't realized that little Richie had put a boot down on that one. LOL

This kind of stuff isn't isolated to Chicago nor the state of Ill.! It isn't even an American specific thing, but an "old world concept...as in "BAKSHEESH" which is probably as old as humankind.

He doesn’t want to date his daughter...THAT is creepy.

Both Trump and Cruz have roses _and_ thorns. Both could get the nomination. Only Trump has a chance to win on the first ballot but on subsequent ballots other could.

When I saw the title of this article, I thought it could be about running Trump/Cruz. I was really interested in that bc I think that’s a winner. Everything Trump said about Cruz will be excused with “that’s just primary talk, Ted is smart and played the rules” etc.

It could unite us.

Flame away.

Hillary won over a million votes in NY. Trump won 524,000.

It was a CLOSED PRIMARY in N.Y.; what don't you understand about THAT ?

Also, the time to change one's party registration was at the start of LAST OCTOBER and did NOT get much publicity.

And making Hillary SPEND MONEY IN A "EASY" BLUE STATE" is not only as rare as hens' teeth, but amazing!

LOL....and YOU imagine that you know and understand politics?

Ted and Heidi have long ago chosen sides (sold their souls?) to the Globalists, Bush World Order. An even cursory look at Ted in the senate and Heidi in the Bush administration proves that completely.

Besides Cruz being a liar, a cheat, untrustworthy and a WEIRDO. In ways we don't even know about yet. But we do know all that cultish "Raising of the Saints" and "Anointed One" crap and his alignment with Dominionism and Latter Day Saints and other cults disguised as religions.

Cruz is a gigantic risk, at the very least. He needs to be NOWHERE NEAR the presidency. He's a loose cannon, and at the very least a Manchurian Candidate, a foreigner candidate put forth by the Globalist/New World Order to continue their ending of the sovereignty of the USA, first replacing it with a North American Union. He supports the WTO, TPA, TPP, millions of new immigrant workers, open border, settlement of muslims here in unlimited numbers (see the Ryan/Cruz Omnibus spending bill)...is that enough just by itself?
