You are right, and i'm not really being serious about this. I find it disturbing, but I think Dick Van Dike is more naive about what he is doing than anything else.

I agree. He is 90 years old and it’s probably a chance for him to perform - I don’t think he gets too many opportunities now.
Maybe Old Hollywood was just better at keeping to themselves.
There were different veins going on concurrently. The 1950s crowd that often came from live-NYC television and Broadway, then veered to Hollywood, were predominently left. The ‘old’ Hollywood 1950s studio crowd that starred in or produced things like tv-westerns and filmed dramas were much, much more apt to be conservative.
By the mid-to-late-1960s, forget it. Radicals and degenerates took over.
