In politics, the “sure thing” ends up needing to work two, sometimes three times harder for the win, if they even make it. Think Romney was a sure thing by election day. He lost, in part by the faction of the GOP that had already wised up and either stayed home or voted 3rd party, but also because of his own, albeit less committed, supporters. These are the people who were largely undecided, probably right up to election day. Some may have even leaned towards voting for him. They are the same ones who, upon realizing that Romney was indeed a “sure thing”, chose to stay home.

Trump may be the “sure thing” right now, which only means he will need to work even harder to make sure he gets those votes. I’m confident he will.
