I'm a real Marylander, wife, mom and grandmother, and I'm running to be Maryland's next United States Senator because itâs time to bring some new ideas and new people to Washington.
Almost 36 years ago when my husband Mark and I got married, we had five dollars in our pockets â no car and minimum wage jobs. Mark was a laborer in construction, and I worked a variety of minimum-wage jobs. I put up drywall and helped build a golf course. I was a dishwasher, parking lot attendant, maid, and waitress. With hard work, I rose up through the ranks to be the housekeeping manager at a resort. We believed in the American Dream - we were living it.
Mark and I were eventually able to start a small construction company. We learned how to hire good people, meet a payroll, and deal with all of the government rules, regulations and taxes that go with running a small business. We struggled to build our business as we raised our two sons. I also enrolled in college - as a working mom I know how tough it is to be a non-traditional student. At age 32, I finally graduated from Towson State with the highest honors and a degree in Elementary Education. I was so proud to have my kids see me walk across that stage and receive my diploma. They certainly saw how hard I studied to reach that goal.
Like many of you, we and our business got hit hard by the recession. At this point, I wanted to see if I could use my life experiences in business and community service and make a difference. I wanted to make sure that hard-working Marylanders could achieve the American Dream.

Kathy Szeliga seems like the real deal to me, not a D.C. insider only interested in her own advancement. Her working class background is a great sign. Under the right circumstances, she could win.
Unless if she supports Cruz. Then she’s the biggest piece of crap to ever walk the face of the earth and is dead to half the folks on this forum. Like Sowell.
If Rep. Donna Edwards is the Dem nominee (and White Dems in MD hate PG County “Ghetto” Black Dems), it will bolster GOP chances of winning this seat for the first time since 1980.
Not living in the People’s Republic of Maryland, I can’t vote for her. But I wish her well, and hope that a similar candidate will arise here in New Jersey, as one is (or several are) sorely needed.
I don’t know which candidate she endorses for President. But I’m sure she’s very busy laying the groundwork for her own campaign.
Please, let’s keep the Trump/Cruz infighting off this thread. If only it would cease all together. We need them both.
Yeah, but if she doesn’t say Trump, the pitchforks will be out. That was a fair warning.
Trump, Cruz, Rubio. Chocolate, vanilla, strawberry. We can disagree on the flavor without hating those with differing tastes, can’t we?
If we want perfection we will have to wait for His second coming, and no man knows the hour of His coming.
Here’s another election in Maryland where I hope to see victory.
If she wins give her six months before she in with the establishment.
I’d believe her more if she said “I’m running to bop on the govt gravy train I’ve been complaining about my whole adult life”.
If Donna Edwards wins the ‘RAT primary over Van Hollen, then the Republican candidate would stand a chance-—not a big chance, but a chance.
Paging Dr. Carson.
What’s her platform?
She is a Hogan girl who has been fighting to restore sanity and responsibility to MD. Smart, strong, hates libs, she is what MD needs.
I’m happy to hear it. I hope conservatives don’t miss a chance to promote her candidacy.
She’s not my in my district but I get her emails. She sounds like she’ll be a very good choice.
I hope district 2 will also send Pat McDonough to Washington to replace Ruppersberger.
I’ll vote for Pat with a smile on my face.
Her name is spelled differently on website.
Already flip flopping!
Website abortion links dont work....those should be the easiest to do first since no experience is necessary.....tells me not really against it...?
All that hard work amd no devotion to God or humility to Him...isn’t that tithing to acknowledge Him?
You can’t please everubody, you have to impress the individual voter. Not impressed here.
