Bill Kristol: Don't Underestimate Ted Cruz
Newsmax ^ | January 19, 2016 | Bill Hoffmann

The Donald Trump-Ted Cruz battle for the GOP presidential nomination is a "good heavyweight fight" -- but while most believe the brawling billionaire will trounce the Texas senator, Cruz in no way should be underestimated, Bill Kristol, editor of the Weekly Standard, tells Newsmax TV.

"Cruz has a little better chance to win this fight with Trump than most people think. Most people think Trump is going to steamroll him," Kristol said Tuesday on "The Steve Malzberg Show."

"I think Cruz is pretty tough and pretty able at this kind of infighting, but it's a heck of a fight I got to say. As just an observer, Trump, Cruz going at it -- that's a pretty good heavyweight fight."

Kristol said he was impressed by Trump's performance in the sixth GOP presidential debate last week.

"I'm not pro-Trump, but I thought he had just objectively probably done a pretty good job in the debate and avoided any big blows ... and he won the initial round on 'New York values,'" Kristol said referring to Cruz's controversial crack about Trump's ideology -- a remark the businessman threw back in his face....

If Bill Kristol is given the choice between Ted Cruz or Marco Rubio for president, for which does Kristol cast his vote?

I rest my case.

SE Cupp, Glenn Beck, and now Billy Kristol?

I’m just going to back away slowly.

The line is unraveling but some are still desperately hanging on. I feel sorry for them but they are all adults.

I’d say don’t overestimate him either. Why did he call in Palin in Texas?

Wasn’t the visit of Kristol or Barnes to Alaska the reason Palin got the initial recommendation for VP in 2008?

Bill Kristol is GOPe 100%. What he really said is “Our GOPe candidates will not win (bye bye Bush, Christi and perhaps Rubio) thus we see Cruz as an acceptable alternative to Trump. Forget Christie and Rubio and Bush, it is over for them is what they are thinking but will pull for Rubio as long as possible.

I find it amusing that Rubio the most conservative candidate with the exception of Cruz whom is far more conservative is now the candidate of choice of the old GOP elite.

The GOPe is obviously using Cruz as a battering ram against Trump. They then will use
his "Elmer Gantry-esque" statements, along with those of his father, to put separation
between him and the general electorate.

The real question is if this is, indeed, a two man race Trump vs Cruz with Trump only in the 30% range can he get to 51% since all of the other candidates votes are more likely to be inherited by Cruz, not Trump in my opinion.

I feel sorry for you, Trumpbot.
Ted Cruz is crushing Donald Trump in a two man head to head matchup race.
Donald Trump is such a nasty, vicious creep, he's has one of the lowest net favorability ratings in Gallup's polling. Meanwhile Ted Cruz has the highest net favorability rates in the same poll.
I feel sorry for Trump the snake. How is his gargantuan ego cope with his impending rushing defeat at the hands of Ted Cruz.

I can make a better, stronger and much more credible case for Ted Cruz than Billy Kristol.

Well, if I have a choice between Ted Cruz and Rubio, I take Cruz. But if I have a choice between Trump and Rubio, I take Rubio.

I take anyone except Kasich over Trump. Probably tied with Bush.

And before anyone screams "but what about the Gang of 8", I figure that if Trump can reverse course from the position he took on immigration in the 2012 election, then Rubio should get the same consideration for reversing himself on the Gang of 8.
