I like Donald Trump and would support him for president if he were the nominee. Even with another northeastern liberal Republican -- Scott Brown, who Trump has floated as a VP candidate -- on the ticket.
But my clear favorite is Ted Cruz, because he's the one Constitutional conservative who actually goes to war for what he believes. In 2013, he single handedly shut down the government in an effort to defund Obamacare (a promise that Mitch McConnell made to voters in Kentucky that he quickly abandoned). He called out his own party's leader on the Senate floor for lying to conservatives. He's meant what he's said and he's said what he meant, something precious few politicians ever do.
What does Donald Trump actually stand for? What do we call the Trump movement? Does it have successors as Cruz appears to be to Reagan?
Given a choice between Cruz and Trump, it would appear the GOP establishment has figured it can work with the Donald. So says the Washington Post and many others:
Republican donors, who had long assumed that the outsider candidates would self-destruct and that voters would rally around someone such as former Florida governor Jeb Bush, are suddenly adjusting their thinking and strategies.
Spencer Zwick, the national finance chairman for Mitt Romney's 2012 campaign, said power brokers and financiers are now trying to cozy up to Trump in various ways, such as reaching out through mutual friends in New York's business community.
"A lot of donors are trying to figure their way into Trump's orbit. There is a growing feeling among many that he may be the guy, so people are certainly seeing if they can find a home over there," he said....

But I’ve gotta say that I believe that the big donors are only *trying* to get into Trump’s circle because he’s the front runner. And that’s all. If Cruz’s numbers were flipped with Trump, he’d be the guy getting the calls.
I’m also pretty pleased that they’re *trying*... not succeeding. That’s driving home the point that Trump can’t be bought.

They’re probably starting to realize that eventhough Trump is a bit of a flaky loose cannon, except for a few issues they’ll get exactly what they want from Trump. Maybe even on those few issues, too. Who really knows with Trump?

It is the nature of the beast to cozy up to the one who will not cramp your style. They tried with Bush and he couldn't do it. The GOPe waited until the Trump/Cruz alliance began to split.
They don't want Cruz because he would hold them to account. They need more flexibility and Trump would give that to them.
I think this election has proved one thing... The Establishment isn’t a single all knowing entity... It is a group of factions who have a history of coming together for a common cause, that cause being the GOP.
Jeb was their guy... And when Trump wrecked Jeb their entire plan went to pot. Some GOPe went to Rubio, others to Christie, and some even stuck with Jeb...
Now the slimes are saying some in the GOPe are warming up to Cruz:

My guess is that the GOPe is starting to wise up... They know this is now between Trump and Cruz. A big hint hit me today... I noticed GOPe mouth piece Politico was running nothing but anti-Trump articles... While FoxNews seemed pretty pro-Trump for a change...
Battle lines are being drawn and the GOPe factions are trying to pick the winning horse. It’s 1980 all over again... But instead of one Reagan we have two outsiders wrecking things up.
They’re BOTH going to make deals like crazy.
But Cruz won’t stick with his *stated* principles. He’ll do what it takes, just like every other politician. He’ll definitely do what it takes to make his donors happy so he can get a second term. He might make a few ineffective feints, but that’ll put him into Carter territory and we’ll have another democrat as president in 4 years.
Trump has flat-out said that he’ll make the best deals possible for US. He’s not bought. And I hope and pray that he uses every dirty, low-down, mean trick in the book to do so.
The economy, security, shut down the DOE, and strangle the EPA.
If that’s ALL that Trump does, I’m a happy camper.
It’s up to US to fight for the morality of this nation. Not the politicians.

in the end the election is going to come down to who the voters think will bring back a dying economy to prosperity again. the vast majority of Republican primary voters aren’t going to vote on gay marriage, abortion or who goes to church every Sunday, they are going to vote for the guy they think can rebuild the country to it’s greatness economically and militarily.. a huge percentage of voters have already decided and they aren’t changing... we will see in the coming few weeks who they think will do a better job at doing just that
In actuality, I think it has been just the opposite. I think the GOPe has been kissing up to Cruz, not Trump.

I just watched the whole Portsmouth NH get together this evening and he did no such thing.. somebody yelled out Scott’s name and Trump said yeah great central casting(a nice gesture to Scott Brown who invited him to speak) then laughed it off and moved on.. once again how dishonest to say he floated the idea
oh btw did you see like millions of others Cruz offer Trump (the left wing liberal from NY with the NY values) the VP slot at the debate Thursday?.. I sure saw it.. so much for Cruz’s Conservative values.. right?
