Trump campaign attempted to kick Republican rivals off ballot in Illinois
The Guardian ^ | 01/14/2016 | Ben Jacobs

Donald Trump's campaign tried to get his rival Republicans kicked off the ballot in Illinois – but the attempt failed when his state chair failed to bring duplicate copies of the required forms.

The Guardian has learned that on Wednesday, the last day for candidates to object to signatures submitted by rival campaigns to get on the ballot, chair Kent Gray showed up at the Illinois board of elections a few minutes before it closed. Illinois has some of the toughest ballot access laws in the country, and qualifying for the ballot requires gathering a different number of signatures in each of the state's 18 congressional districts. Candidates often stumble trying to fulfill the state's requirements....

State politicians have long had a "gentleman's agreement" that candidates would not attempt to contest each other's signatures and throw each other off the ballot. But challenging petition signatures as a form of political chicanery in the Land of Lincoln has a long history. Barack Obama first won election to the state senate in 1996 by successfully challenging the signatures of his incumbent opponent and getting her removed from the ballot.

It had been widely reported that the campaign of Governor John Kasich of Ohio, a vocal Trump critic, had problems gathering signatures in Illinois, and representatives of Kasich, along with the campaigns of Florida senator Marco Rubio and neurosurgeon Ben Carson, were monitoring for any objections from rival camps. It seemed that they had dodged a bullet until Gray walked in attempting to object to a number of candidates on the grounds that some of their signatures were invalid, although exactly who he focused on is unclear.

But Illinois law requires that someone objecting to a candidate's nominating papers bring both the original and two duplicates. Gray only brought the original.

WTH does this string of definitions have to do with the LEGITIMATE interests acquired on the earned equity of a LEGITIMATE investment - particularly when such investments are subject to risk? Your post is non-sequitur.

“If signatures are not valid, then it is acting within the law, by the very language and purpose of the election laws of a particular state, to contest questionable or provably fraudulent signatures. There is nothing “crooked” about doing so.”

******

But the point here wasn’t about making it fair or questioning possible fraudulent signatures. It was about doing it just before the time ran out so they couldn’t get any more in under the time limit. Trump is for Trump and screw anyone (that includes his supporters) that stand in his way

Ttrump can’t argue on his past record of political views, nor the majority of his current views. He can only make Alinsky type attacks from the left.

I am only stating that the loan itself was legitimate, and has nothing to do with Heidi Cruz being an agent of GS ... Of the reporting requirements, whatever they may be in regards to federal elections, I have no idea - and so I will not offer an opinion on such matters.

“More like spoken like someone who is not a total idiot. No wonder we lose elections!”

*****

We lose elections because people like you vote with your “feelings” instead of your brain. That’s how we got Obama and that’s how we’ll be royally screwed if we get Trump.

I have no idea what you're talking about! It's clearly you thinking with your feelings and not your brain.

Exactly what action is illegal?

Both actions are sleazy? Why? B/c of waiting to the “eleventh hour?” Really?

So now you want to use Queensbury rules in political brinkmanship? No wonder your guys always lose. As long as no law is violated, I am not bothered by the tactics ...

And, truth be told, I suspect if your guy is doing the exact same thing, unless he is totally clueless - in which case I would have serious doubts of his ability to function as POTUS.

Give it up, already - you have not a legal leg to stand on.

Obama is an amateur who has no clue what he’s doing, but was smart enough to hoodwink half the country into making him POTUS. Even though I have my strong doubts it was a legitimate election.

It’s a good guess Trump has much more coming. Stay tuned.

That just about sums it up and wraps up this thread.

Oh, I see - so Cruz is not for Cruz, and screw everyone else, eh? So, your guy does not really want to win - and particularly so if he gave appearance that might call to question his public displays of being “holier than thou?”

I remind you of the old adage: “all is fair in love and war” - and THIS IS WAR!

Unless you can cite me the language of the law that prohibits such timing as to when a challenge may be made, then you have no leg to stand on. Period. End of discussion.

Oh, cry me a river. Quit grasping at straws. The fact is that your candidate is trailing in the polls - and so you’ve got your panties in a knot. Quit wining like a little girl, and go stump for your guy.

*********

It’s not about playing nice but it would be helpful to have a statesman in the vein of Ronald Reagan in the Whitehouse instead of someone that thinks he’s a contestant on Big Brother. Trump’s supporters are “projecting” what they want to see onto Trump, which is the typical salesman tool. Just like Barry did against McCain. When people fall to populism versus actual deeds they get the hot air they were excited about and that’s it. When has Trump fought for anything other than himself and more money? But now he’s the American savior?

Trumps voting record is the voting record of the dems he supported.

Didn’t Trump say he voted for Obama?

A wink and a nod at voter fraud.
