Bob Dole really, really doesn’t like Ted Cruz
The Washington Post's The Fix ^ | December 8, 2015 | Chris Cillizza

Posted on 12/08/2015 3:42:45 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

On MSNBC's "Andrea Mitchell Reports" Tuesday, the veteran anchor sat down with former Senate majority leader and 1996 Republican presidential nominee Bob Dole to talk, ostensibly, about the current state of his party and the rise of Donald Trump. But the Kansas Republican had something else on his mind. And that something else was how much he dislikes Texas Sen. Ted Cruz.

In a question about what Dole makes of Trump, the former Senate leader quickly turned matters to Cruz. "He's not traditional Republican conservative," Dole said of the Texan. "Achievements are shutting down the government twice, and calling the Republican leader, Mitch McConnell, a liar on the Senate floor. It violates the rules of the Senate. And he doesn't have a single Senate supporter."

Later, Mitchell probed as to whether Dole could or would vote for Trump next November. Dole said he would because he can't bring himself to vote for Hillary Clinton. Then she asked about Cruz, and Dole joked, "I might oversleep that day," before adding: " 'Cause he used to make these speeches. 'Remember President Dole, do you remember President McCain.' The inference was that we were all a bunch of liberals, and only he is a true conservative. And he uses the word 'conservative' more than he ever uses the word 'Republican.' So, it would be difficult." (continued)

‘Cause he used to make these speeches. ‘Remember President Dole, do you remember President McCain.’ The inference was that we were all a bunch of liberals, and only he is a true conservative.

Which just happens to be true. Mr Dole, you can't handle the truth.
And the word is “RINO”.

And he uses the word ‘conservative’ more than he ever uses the word ‘Republican.’

Very good Mr Dole. Cause the Republican Party establishment lost their way long ago. That is why Ted Cruz connects strongly with frustrated, long suffering, conservative Republican base and is rising in the polls.

But he lost so graciously! [/s]

Yes, instead of a winner with fire in his belly, all the GOPe has provided are gentlemanly loser candidates.

McCain even reassured the American people before his loss, that his opponents (Obama and Biden) were honorable people that we had no reason to fear them. Romney disappeared toward the end of his campaign.

Sounds like Bob Dole has taken too many little blue pills and all the blood has gone to his little brain.

And the reason why Dole lost? A whole lot of Republican voters really really didn't like him.

They didn't exactly hate him, either.

He wasn't the most inspiring candidate, but he lost because of the economy and the advantages of incumbency.

Dole gets kicked around now because he lost, but he wasn't wildly unpopular with Republican voters. There just weren't enough Republican voters in 1996. It's not like the GOP owned everybody who ever once voted for Reagan -- a lot of them just voted Republican because of the economy, or because they didn't like Carter.

I'd be ticked off too if I were Bob Dole and was always getting told that Bob Dole lost because Bob Dole was some kind of liberal (and also because Bob Dole is ticked off most of the time).

Bob Dole was long past the newest voter demo, and only got the nomination because it was "his turn".

I had to hold my nose to vote for him. I remembered his unconstitutional budget (bill initiated in the Senate) during Reagan.

Yeah, I reckon that would upset you, Bob.

That’s right. Bob Dole spent decades “reaching across the aisle” ala Juan McLame to give libs everything they wanted. Bob Dole should STFU.

Related, it just occurred to me last night: I thought of Reagan's famous "I didn't leave the Democrat party, the Democrat party left me." The Republican party left me in 2008, when it nominated the worse candidate possible, John McCain, and expected me to vote for it. I did because Palin was his running mate and I figured odds were that McCain would be carried out of the WH in a straightjacket before his first term, decent gamble.

By 2012, when amoral leftist functional Democrat Mitt Romney was the nominee of "my party," for the first time in 35 years of doggedly voting Republican, the realization of how much the party had left me sunk in, but it was true in 2008. McCain was worse than a joke -- he was sabotage.

What a coincidence -- 2009 is when Trump (re)discovered the Republican party, after being a Democrat since 1999 (a flirtation with "Independent" was in there somewhere); he'd been Republican from 1987 to '99. So Trump began inhabiting the party that left me right on time.

A fricken' reality TV show self-promoted celebrity billionaire with a 26-year track record of politically left-leaning moderate at best, turned Republican patriot hero -- he can do anything, he's The Donald! Hear him roar!

Man. Truth is stranger than fiction.

Dole, McCain, Romney, Christie, Bush(es) take your pick of any of the establishment so-called Republicans,

They will never have more than a hint of overt criticism for the most demonic of democrats, and yet will pile on Cruz or Trump with enough vitriol to make even a clinton blush

They all worship at the same alter,

Who knew Bob Dole was such a petty man? Old men should know better than to soil their reputation with small-minded grudges. Dole was a terrible GOP nominee. If he can’t accept that then he chose the wrong profession.

This is for you, Bob. Because being a *real* conservative does matter. Thankfully Senator Cruz knows that.
