Congress didn’t approve McCain’s eligibility. They passed a non-binding resolution stating they believed he was eligible. (Likely a signal to the courts where they stood on the issue.)
McCain was not born on a military base. He was born in a hospital in the Canal Zone. Regardless, military bases are not considered U.S. soil where citizenship is concerned.
I stand corrected on the location of his birth. I thought I remembered some congress folks claiming he was born on military property. Probably Trent Lott.
But I still say congress “approved” his eligibility when they passed the non binding resolution. And notice in my original post “approved” is in quotation marks.
But my point is they KNEW Obama was going to be running and that it would probably come up. And who did they run against him? A man who wasn’t eligible.
