Has the mother of this killer been seen or heard from since that day? I know the press was hiding her photo for a while, but I haven’t heard of any interviews she’s given. Not like the dad who ‘can’t imagine’ where his son got those 13 or more guns. The father must not have known the mom Laurel very well, because guns were a big deal to her, and have been for the last few years. She probably has left her job too. At least for a month or two. Who could return to work on Monday like nothing happened, unless you were as sick as the boy was?

I don’t know much about the mother, really. The one thing I think where she made a grave mistake is in not having somewhere to store the weapons that didn’t allow unfettered access, especially if she may have been concerned about how stable he may or may not have been.
She shouldn’t be condemned for having 13 guns for any reason she saw fit - whether out of fear of government gun grabbing, or just a plain love of guns. We all have our own reasons, and there is nothing in the Second Amendment about ‘reason’ one way or the other.
Mom has large number of weapons, as is her right. But with rights come responsibilities. The Second Amendment is no different. Anyone exercising the right to “keep and bear arms” has a responsibility to secure those arms.
Mom, a licensed LPN (not a Nurse Practitioner) according to the Oregon registry does not take precautions to secure her weapons despite the history of emotional instability of her son.
These murders were caused by a failure of the family, not society.
I am 61. There is no way I could get into my 87 year old father-in-law’s gun safe absent a few sticks of dynamite. (He can't either). Either Mom had no safe or she kept it unlocked or shared combination with son.
