With a Mexican drug lord on the loose from prison and apparently tweeting threats to Republican presidential contender Donald Trump rival Republican and U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz said Tuesday that Trump deserves protection from the Secret Service.
On Fox News On the Record, host Greta Van Susteren noted then-Sen. Barack Obama received early Secret Service protection because of the number and credibility of threats against a man running to be the first black president. She asked if Trump should get the same attention.
Of course he should, Cruz said. Listen, these drug cartels are incredibly dangerous. They are transnational criminal operations. They are murderers, they are thugs In Texas we deal with this all the time. Weve got 1,200 miles of border with Mexico and we see the ravages of these violent, murdering drug cartels.
Assuming the threats to Trump are real, Cruz said, Absolutely he should get protection.
Elsewhere in the interiew, Cruz pulled few punches while discussing sanctuary cities, saying what those paying attention to politics in America already know, that the Democratic Party supports illegal immigration.
Appearing Tuesday on Fox News On the Record, the Texas senator told host Greta Van Susteren that sanctuary cities have been a persistent problem in the Lone Star State because Democrat mayors decline to enforce the law.
It varies in terms of how brazen it is, its not always as brazen as San Francisco is, Cruz stated. But its a problem when you have cities that are in the control of the Democrats and dont want to follow the law.
Calling a spade a spade, Cruz responded with the bitter truth when Van Susteren tried to turn the tables by saying illegal immigration is a federal issue but Congress does not pass laws to address it.
Its because the Democratic Party supports illegal immigration, he said. They dont even call it illegal immigration. Theyve come up with this undocumented term.
I was also thinking Trump should get Secret Service protection. Then I remembered how incompetent they are. He’s better off with the likely crème de la crème team he already has.
Considering who gets to make the decision to assign Secret Service to a candidate, I suspect Trump won’t get protection even if he is the nominee.
Jeh Johnson
Mitch McConnell
Harry Reid
John Boehner
Nanacy Pelosi
As bad as the Secret Service has become Trump would likely do better providing his own security...
Ridiculous indeed. This is becoming quite the clown show. Too many candidates and too much preening and idiocy.
The GOP is in big trouble in 2016 and this crap isn’t helping.
You would think that those of us within 100 miles of the Canadian border would be relatively safe from the potential of cartel violence. Unfortunately Chicago is a major sanctuary city and we see a few cartel connected arrests in Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan every year. Lord knows how many we don’t see.
A few years ago there were 4 Mexican illegals arrested 15 miles from my home as part of a contract killing plot.
Actually I would make Trump, Ambassador to the UN.
They whined about how John Bolton was a big meanie, give em a taste of Trump.
I tend to think Trump will keep his own security people.....why have infiltrators?.............................. Guns for hire are just that. The higher the price, the higher the loyalty (Maybe.)
The only reason naps has a problem with this is because Cruz said it. He stalks Cruz threads, foaming at the mouth and raving.
Check his posting history. He has accused Cruz of being a homosexual-—having a “gay lover’-—and said Ted would be fine if his girls became “carpet munchers.”
Yes, he actually said that about those little girls.
I’m sure you’re right. Independent personal protection would be safer given the current political situation.
once again you’re wrong and just blabbing to muck up any thread that has anything about Ted Cruz in it
Obama had secret service protection 17 months before the election

“In the last election, Democratic candidates John Kerry and John Edwards received their protection in February 2004 as they were competing for the party’s nomination. Obama’s detail comes nine months before the first votes are cast.”
He’s right. That drug king is a known mass murderer and has openly threatened Trump.
Hell I hope Trump is willing to extend some of his personal protection to Cruz as well. Cruz probably can’t afford his own and you know the democrats would be downright celebratory if either man were injured or killed.
Golly...that’s gross!
Frankly , for me, Cruz can say and do pretty much anything he wants to win this. I know plenty enough of the man to go the distance and giving him space to appeal to any voter that will vote for him...even if I might not understand.
I think one can be quite comfortable when they do their own homework at length before things actually get going strong. I’ve supported Cruz since 2014....he’s one very rare and unique politician. Would all be so!
I’m not worried about Cruz...he’s handling himself very well, and as well protected.
We have always said this election is going to get plenty nasty...and it will. There is more at stake then any other time ...so I’m giving Cruz lots of latitude to say and do whatever he can to gain votes to win...when you know the man’s background well...and have seen and heard him many times....you know he and his campaign people are on a good path wherever it takes them...let’s hope it’s a win!
Is that you Jeb?
Well, apparently there’s no depth too low to which some will sink.
It’s disgusting. A decent person would be ashamed.
My main concern at this point is to keep the Bush/Christie wing away from the white house by any means necessary.
Is approval from Imam Hussien required?
