If anyone in the GOP field knows how to draw attention, its Donald Trump. And if anyone has a recipe for coping with Trumps unfiltered and inflammatory comments, lots of Republicans would love to hear it.
Two Texans in the 2016 field offered studies in contrast as outrage bubbled over Trumps depictions of Mexican immigrants as thugs and rapists.
Donald Trump does not represent the Republican Party, said former Gov. Rick Perry.
I am proud to stand with Donald Trump, said Sen. Ted Cruz.
Governing is about choosing, and so are campaigns.
When Mexico sends its people, theyre not sending their best. ... Theyre bringing drugs. Theyre bringing crime. Theyre rapists. And some, I assume, are good people, Trump had said in launching his presidential bid.
Repudiation was by far the most common response from fellow Republicans.
Jeb Bush hung back at first but eventually called Trumps comments extraordinarily ugly. The partys national chairman, Reince Priebus, got Trump by phone in a futile effort to get him to tone down rhetoric that alienates Hispanic voters.
Trump shrugged off the call, insisting it was congratulatory; the master of the deal is also a master spinmeister.
As for Cruz and Perry, they face similar political imperatives, even if they responded differently....

Don’t be surprised folks if we see a Cruz/Trump or Trump/Cruz Ticket in 2016; either on the GOP Ticket or as a Third Party. Think about it: If the Election in 2016 is:
Hillary Clinton (Dem), Yeb Bush (GOP) and Cruz or Trump (Indy)...... that, my friends, is one Election the Third Party would win!!!
Compared to Obama, Perry is Reagan.....compared to Cruz, Perry is Obama

What time and what network?
I saw on Hannity that illegal crime costs the Feds $120 billion per year. You can build a real nice fence for that with tons of money left over.
It amazes me how the anti-Trump crowd is so cavalier about the people killed by illegals and so quick to dismiss Trump. Simply unbelievable.
See my Post #41 please.
That election would be decided in the house.
They would choose Jeb! even if Trump/Cruz got more votes.
Then we would live through 4 years where 2/3 of the populace would absolutely despise the new Bush presidency. It would be the end of the republican party.
Those who support illegal aliens hate this country or they have vested interests and their greed overcomes all other considerations. Perry is not winning voters. Besides Cruz, Walker, and Trump, is there anybody else who does not cater to illegals?
No.....the old way we have gotten nothing but RINOs since Right after Reagan. This will prevent much interference from the GOPe and the MSM. You have it backwards. If something doesn’t work try something different

might be on networks, but not interested.
Got it. Thx
Not on the networks, they are scared ****less. CNN is poo-pooing him, and Fox is doing a “5” re-run, weasels...
Geraldo is frothing on Fox. Not interested.
So far Sherrif Joe Arpaio and the woman who lost her husband were very powerful. She went after federal judges.
Pure gold.
For the record, I’m finished with Fox. I’m leaving them behind. Interested in nothing they have to broadcast anymore.
Yes Gold, Ditto that on Fox, watching on line, so liberating!
No, and I’m not too sure about Walker
Where in the world do you hang out?
I live in Texas and I've heard none of the crap you're spewing!
I don't spew it, Perrybots do and they do it right here on FR.
Shoulders, chest hair and coyote shooting all in one post! lol!

You must be a journalist.
No they come from many Perrybots and from many years here at FR. But that's all the homework I'm going to do for you. You can either believe me or don't, I really don't give a damn.
Have a nice night.
Trump's ego is big enough for him to be his own running mate.
We at FR bash Obama for being an egotist who makes personal attacks against private citizens, and a surprising number of Freepers are willing to stand and cheer Trump for being exactly the same thing.
Trump may be right on immigration but so is Cruz, and I'd feel a hell of a lot more comfortable knowing the guy holding the nuclear football isn't trying to play 'the art of the deal'.
