I have been saying exactly what you said “programming is low skilled work”. I learned many programming languages such as Cobol, Fortran, dBase, etc very quickly. It took me 6 years of college to get a master’s degree in engineering and 10 more years of work experience before I could call myself a “good” engineer. I developed many complex expert software products because I developed myself into an “expert” engineer, not because of my easy to acquire programming skills.
