In a move more reminiscent of Texas Senator Ted Cruz than Ohio Representative John Boehner, the House Speaker has pursued a strategy to defund President Obamas executive action on immigration, leveraging funding for Homeland Security in the process.
Bloomberg News reports:
House Speaker John Boehner said hes prepared to let funding lapse for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and blame Democrats if the Senate fails to pass a House-backed bill for the agency.
The Homeland Security Department faces a shutdown of nonessential operations if Congress does not reach agreement before current funding ends on Feb. 27.
When asked if he was prepared to let the funding lapse, the Ohio Republican said, Certainly. The House has acted. Weve done our job.
Predictably, Democrats stand poised to blame Republicans in the event of a partial government shutdown.
He will be responsible for shutting down a large part of the government, [New York Sen. Chuck] Schumer said in a statement. The American people will perceive it that way, and his party and the country will suffer for it.
Adding to that sentiment is everyones favorite me-too moderate, Senator John McCain:
The American people didnt give us the majority to have a fight between House and Senate Republicans, McCain said on Sunday on NBCs Meet the Press. They want things done. We cannot cut funding for the Department of Homeland Security. We need to sit down and work this thing out.
In a fight between John McCain and John Boehner, which one represents the establishment? After recently claiming that he was Tea Party before it was cool, Boehner is now positioning himself to look the part.
Has he actually grown a spine, or is this too little too late? Where was this defiant opposition to Obamas executive action when the Congress passed the Cromnibus? Does this move win you over?

You never know what goes on in the background. Maybe, just praying... but maybe there were contingencies to him getting enough votes to keep his speaker job.

FUMM
Its time to change the Senate rules and include legislation under the nuclear option.
The GOP has 54 votes in the Senate to move this bill to the communist faggot in the White House desk but doesn’t have the balls that Harry Reid to change the filibuster rule.
McConnell is a spineless worm and is going back on his word when said back in 2013 that if Reid invoked it, the GOP would not only retain it but use it for Legislation and SCOTUS appointments.
Here is this corpse McConnell now on the DHS bill:
Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-OH) maintains that it is time for Democrats in the Senate to get off their ass and do something other than vote no.
But Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is preparing the groundwork for the cave, stating, I think its clear we cant go forward in the Senate unless you all have heard something I havent. And so the next move, obviously, is up to the House.
So both of these clowns are playing games and lying.
CHANGE THE RULE MCCONNELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
“bizarre deal”
Nothing bizarre about it.
The Senate will pass a bill and send it to the House and 50 or so Republicans will vote with the Dems to bring it on the floor and pass it.
Boehner won’t stop them, won’t enforce Party discipline, and will claim his hands are clean.
The media will slap him on the back and laugh all the way to the bank at the stupid voters.
And the Devil can quote scripture....
Between inviting BiBi to speak to the Congress and telling the Senate to do their job its almost like somebody taped a popsicle stick to Tammy Faye’s back.
Yep, I agree with you.

Rand Paul On Shutdown: "Even Though It Appeared I Was Participating In It, It Was A Dumb Idea"I said throughout the whole battle that shutting down the government was a dumb idea. Even though it did appear as if I was participating in it, I said it was a dumb idea. And the reason I voted for it, though, is that it's a conundrum. Here's the conundrum. We have a $17 trillion debt and people at home tell me you can't give the president a blank check. We just can't keep raising the debt ceiling without conditions. So unconditionally raising the debt ceiling, nobody at home wants me to vote for that and I can't vote for that. But the conundrum is if I don't we do approach these deadlines. So there is an impasse. In 2011, though, we had this impasse and the president did negotiate. We got the sequester. If we were to extend the sequester from discretionary spending to all the entitlements we would actually fix our problem within a few years.[Posted on 11/19/2013 12:16:51 PM by Third Person]
A few weeks of non-betrayal doesn’t undo years of it.
Spine?
Boehner?
oh, no.
housewife that he is.
Just heard Roger Hedgecick say the same thing on Steve Malzberg’s show. He said dump it Barry’s lap and let him veto away. I don’t think Mitch has the stones.

I agree. I don’t have a detailed understanding of the Senate’s arcane rules, but I thought that some “budget” bills only needed 50 votes for closure. In any case, when it comes to STOPPING ILLEGAL ANTI-AMERICAN ACTIONS BY A ROGUE AMERICAN-HATING PRESIDENT, 50 votes should be enough. Let this disgrace of a president veto it. Get all the ‘RATS on record with their anti-American votes.
Boehner’s different. Different is good...
He just sounded drunk to me. False courage.
Do not be deceived by the orange, weeping, drunk, squishy oompah-loompah!
Or maybe Boehner just got the majority.
DHS,IRS, BLM, AND ATF.
They are all governmental agencies which have been used to PERSECUTE American citizens and have ABUSED their authority and power delegated to them by the people. They have reached their APOGEE of abuse under the Mad Dictator masquerading as a President.
Maybe he is hearing the rumble.
No. Kabuki.
