Following the ratification of Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.) as chair of the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committtee last week, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) was named chair of the Subcommittee on Space, Science and Competitiveness, where he will oversee NASA and science programs.

Appointed Jan. 8, Cruz is expected to be confirmed to the new role by the end of the month as one of many changes to the new Republican-controlled Congress. But the Republican senator's words and actions during his time in office have painted him to be a far cry from an advocate for the sciences, leaving many concerned about the future of space and science funding.

Cruz's infamous hours-long speech in September 2013, led to a 16-day government shutdown barring 97 percent of NASA employees from appearing for work. Interns to the agency were temporarily displaced when the NASA-provided housing was closed during the shutdown, and many have said the agency suffered lasting damage due to the freeze....

“Did you notice that missing 17%?”

Not at all. But here in Maine, the park rangers erected Barry-cades at the entrances to Acadia National Park, and ticketed some people who jumped over the barry-cades, the same disgusting barry-cades they placed in front of the unmanned World War II Memorial in Washington.

And I suppose the progressives still think tasking NASA with outreaches to Muslims was not an abuse of the agency. Just think of all the martian cartoonist NASA could have helped the Muslims kill.

Ashley Alman’s background is in blogging, journalism, political science, and community organizating.
No background in science.
Big fan of “narrative nonfiction” though.
You know, a blowhard!

I don’t even have to read the article to know that the author’s definition of “anti-science” is “anti-dissecting-and-experimenting-on-babies.”

Huffpo journalists, let’s debate some science

HEY! Some of these twenty-something journalists have been out of college for two, even three years! Plus they have degrees in Liberal Arts! So - they know stuff, and shouldn't be argued with. Especially by someone who is old, and likely a racist.

(spoken as an engineer. "Journalists" drive me crazy.)

I thought the Obama regime had changed their mission to one of Muslim outreach.

Maybe they're reaching out to space Muslims. You know, the ones that fly unidentified flying carpets.

Since when does “net neutrality” have anything to do with science?

This “word salad” reminds me a bit of the malapropism-laden ignorance of Oswald Bates on “In Living Color.” http://youtu.be/uAguP-zY2AA

First of all, what the heck does .. “This fercockt gonif found eight things” .. have to do with the message ..??

Secondly, these people who are whining about Cruz’s supposed “hate” of NASA, are mainly complaining because Cruz doesn’t buy “climate change”.

Great .. I don’t buy it either .. so Cruz is still on my list. And .. like I said before .. he may have done this on purpose .. to learn more about what NASA is doing.

Thirdly, I believe Cruz and his family lived in Houston; the home of NASA .. and probably dealing with the traffic from that facility is what nightmares are made of. I used to live near a Lockheed facility (humungus place) .. at certain hours of the day .. you just didn’t get on the road anywhere near the place because you would be tied up in traffic for hours.

Traffic issues with NASA might be a real legit complaint.

So, as usual, this whole “Cruz hates NASA” IS A BIG FAT LIE.
